Selecting and Constructing photography for the music

magazine

I looked at a series of websites to findappropriate professional photography

that I could use in my magazine. This isbecause: I need to have lots of options for what to

use in the magazine.

I need to have plenty of variety that helpsto represent my music scene accurately.

I like this one because the mediumlong shot highlights her beauty andfigure. The black and white effectadds effect to the image and as it is

central, draws our eyes to her. Theindirect mode of address makes thephotograph have a more subtle andsofter effect. The mise en sceneillustrates an ordinary lookingbathroom(from what we can see)and the fact she is applyingmakeup and has clothes on the side

suggests she is not always sodifferent from the rest of us- this ishumbling for the audience.

I think it would be best used on adouble page spread because it’squite a relaxed image and wouldlink in nicely with an article orinterview.

It would influence the design of thepage by creating an anchorageimage at the side of a double pagespread.

I like this one because the lightfrom the top of the image, comingfrom the tips of her hair leads oureyes down to her facial expression. Her eye makeup is quite vivid andeye catching which highlights herdirect mode of address. Although itis a medium close up and we can

barely see her outfit, we are lead tobelieve what she is wearing is quiteminimal and sexy.

It could be used for front covermain image because her pose isvery definite and the direct mode of address creates an attentiongrabbing look.

It would influence the design of thepage by being a central image forthe text to border around.

I like this one because our eyes areimmediately drawn to her face dueto her blunt cut fringe and handgesture. Although her makeup is

quite natural and subtle, this reallybrings out her eyes because of herdirect mode of address. I like hownormally the main intention is tofocus on the face alone however onthis particular photograph, we aredrawn to her hands as well due tothe oversized costume jewellery.Although this image is not ingreyscale, the tone of colour is verylight- this adds effect on the detailof her nail art as we can just to saysee the colours on her union jackpattern. Also, because her nailvarnish is not the same on bothhands I think it adds an unusualtwist to the image. Another reason

we are drawn in to her facial area isbecause of her clothing. The top isreasonably high neck and thereforedoesn’t expose much of her skin.

It could be used for a front covermain image as it is very strikingand collects our attention instantly.

It would influence the design of the

page by being a central image inwhich the text could border around.

I like this one because her facialexpression and body languagehave a big impact on the overallphotograph. Her body language

appears strong and has a dominantflair. This, combined with her daringyet eye catching outfit creates animage our eyes are easily drawn to.Because this is a medium long shot, there is no main focus on her facehowever her expression is stillillustrated and we can capture her

character from this. Due to hermake up being quite simple, thedetailed clothing does most of thetalking.
