The Capital District Golf Tournament was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Cobblestone Park Golf Club and was a HUGE success again this year! The Capital District of the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) held their Mid-Year Capital District Meeting at Pine Island on beautiful Lake Murray in Columbia, SC.

Approximately 152 members and guests attended the meeting and enjoyed the delicious meal from Shealy’s BBQ sponsored by Heyward Incorporated and blessed by Jimmy Wigglesworth. After dinner, District Chair Bob Freeman called the Capital District meeting to order, and recognized all of our sponsors thanking them for their support, as well as the State Executive Committee members who were present. Chair Freeman also congratulated City of Columbia Metro WWTP employees for earning the WEF Water Heroes Award for their efforts

then asked Golf Tournament Committee Chair Phillip Dieckmann to provide an update regarding the Capital District Golf Tournament. Dieckmann provided his report of the tournament and thanked the sponsors and players. Next, Scholarship Committee Chair Betsy Catchings announced

the 2016 WEASC Scholarship recipients – Robert Clark, Julia Smith, and Peggy Smith. Robert Clark is attending Appalachian State University for a degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), while both Julia and Peggy Smith are attending USC for degrees in chemical engineering. After the recipients were congratulated by the membership, Chair Freeman recognized Milton Quattlebaum with SCE&G for their participation in and sponsorship of the Mid-Year Meeting. Details for Family night at Clinton Farm’s Corn Maze were

Chair Freeman reminded members that WEASC award nominations are due in December and can be made online.

With no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn the meeting was then made by Phillip Dieckmann and seconded by Nathan Ward.
