The sponsors of rhe Georgia Student Art Exhibition believe that there

is a grorving consciousness of the importance of art in rhe development

of a well-rounded individual, and they believe that this annual exhibition

has become a positive instrument for the encouregenrent of art expression

The Georgie Studenr Art Exhibition rvill be held in the Fine Arts Building

and the Georgia Museum of Arr at the universiry of Georgia, April 8-22, 1949.

REGULATIONS

Any school in the state of Georgia may zubrnit workr kindergarten, primary,

elementary, iunior high, senior high, and college; public, private or parochial

schools.

There are no limitations as to the number of pieces submitted from iny

school.

All entries must be original art work. No copies of other art work will

be considered.

Work in any medium is acceptable, i. e., drawing, Painting, prints, textiles,

designs, sculprure, crafts.

Every precaution will be taken to cere for work submitted, but schools are

requested not to submit fragile work.

Scotch or masking tape should not be used in mounting pictures.

IDENTIFICATION

Entrv blanks rvill be sent upon requesr bv mailing rhe enclosed card. In the

case of crafts or sculpture, if obiects are roo small to have an entry blank attached

directlv to them, the entrv blank should be mounted on cardboard and attached

by means of a heavy cord.

MAILING

l. Send all entries, fees and corespondence ro: Ezre L. Sellers, Secretary,

Georgia Student Art Exhibition, Departmenr of Art, University of Georgia,

2. All entries must be postmerked before April l, 1g+9.

3. All entry blenks and fees must be mailed on or before April l, 1949.

4. Work delivered by hand must be turned in to the Secretary, Room 204,

Fine Arts Building, Universiry of Georgia, on or before April I, 1949.

FEES

A fee of twenty-five cents must be paid for each piece of work submitted.

IHE CONFERENCE

The annual ar1 conference, held in coniunction with the Georgia student Art

Exhibition is designed to provide contact for Georgia srudents and teachers

with prominent persons in the field of Art Education.

OPEN HOUSE

One of the special features of the 1949 conference will be a series Of demonstra-

rions of techniques in oil painting, crafts, silk screen, sculpture, and ceremics.

These sessions will be conducted by l,amar Dodd' Mary Leath Thomas, Edverd

Johnson, Rubidoux Johnson, Henry Madden end William Watson.

Another feature of this year's conference will be the showing of the Holbrook

collection of paintings, with a lecture by Alfred H. Holbrook. student work

done in the Depamment of Art will be on'exhibitibn in various studios.

A'IICHAEL BROTHERS, INC. SCHOLARSHIP AWARD. Established bv['Iichael B.rthers, Irrc., Athens, Georgia, this scholarship carries the same

prerequisites as the Art Department scholarship A*,ard. It will be given to a

high school senior and must be used during the vear 1949-SO.

A{ICHAEL BRO-THERS PURCHASE A\\'ARI)S. An additional su,r of m.neyd,nated bv A4ichael Brothers. Inc., has been set aside to purchase outstanding

rvork from the exhibition. The t'ork will become the property of the Depart-ment of Art at The universitl' of Georgia to be included in the permanent

collection of examples from public schools and colleges of the State.

TRAVELING EXHIBITIONS

Each l'ear the consultant and members of the advisory comnrirtee select eighty

outstanding pieces of art $'ork from the exhibidon and these examples are

circulated to schools upon requesr. The requests for the exhibition should be

nrade before Septenrber l, 19+9.
