Organisational Overview

EABC’s programme of events is designed specifically for Members to engage in high-level discussion with Australian and European leaders to discuss economic and public-policy issues and developments reflecting the size, significance and dynamics of the Australia-Europe trade, commerce and investment relationship. Most EABC events are open only to EABC Members only, and include a regular series of forums held in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra (expanding to Brisbane and Perth in 2012). EABC’s activities are supported by close working relationships with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the Delegation of the European Commission to Australia & New Zea-land, and EU Member State Missions. BOARDROOM FORUMS WITH AUSTRALIAN LEADERS

The programme includes around forty boardroom forums held each year in Sydney and Melbourne. These events are restricted to 20-30 participants to maximise opportunities for direct dialogue and exchange with guest speakers. Speakers include Federal and State Government Ministers, advisors, senior officials, market regulators, academics and business leaders. EVENTS WITH EUROPEAN LEADERS, OFFICIALS & DELEGATIONS

Boardroom forums, receptions, roundtables and other events are held with European diplomats, visiting EU Commissioners and senior officials, Ministers and senior officials from EU Member State governments (in association with our Charter & Associate Members), parliamentary delegations, officials from non-government organisations, policy institutes, business and industry delegations. EABC undertakes an annual Australian Business Mission to Europe in June each year. The Mis-sion visits Brussels and other EU Member States for dialogue with European Commissioners, Ministers and senior officials, and representatives of peak European business organisations and policy institutes. These forums provide opportunities for working discussions on trade and regulatory issues affecting the Australia-EU economic relationship, and sharing of information regarding trade and investment promotion issues, initiatives and events. POLICY ACTIVITIES

EABC policy priorities and activities focus on the key issues affecting economic relations, including the promotion of an agenda for establishing an Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement, governance, market regulation issues (including financial services), infrastructure development and co-operation, and energy and climate change policy. EABC collaborates with the Australian National University, The University of Sydney, Monash University and other organisations in pursuing these objectives.

Programmes

6th EABC Australian Business Mission to Europe June 2012

Business Mission Background EABC’s 2012 Australian Business Mission to Europe will visit Frankfurt (3-4June), Brussels (5-6 June), Rotterdam and The Hague (7-8 June) 2012. EABC’s Business Missions are strongly supported by the Australian Government and European Union as an important activity to strengthen bilateral co-operation on public and economic policy developments affecting issues between Australia and Europe as its largest economic partner. In developing the programme, we have worked closely with the official representatives of the countries we are visiting, including the Australian Ambassadors representing the EU, Belgium, Germany and Netherlands, including Ambassador Brendan Nelson in Brussels, as well as Ambassadors Peter Tesch in Frankfurt and Neil Mules in Netherlands. Purpose The purpose of these annual business missions is to engage the leadership of the institutions of the European Union, member states and peak business and industry groups in ongoing dialogue on the Australia-EU trade and investment relationship. The missions also provide Australian delegates with insights into public and economic policy developments occurring within Europe at both the national and EU levels. This provides delegates with up-to-date information on critical areas such as the regulation of global trade, financial markets, economic performance and development across the 500M EU market, energy and climate change, and the EU’s engagement with the Asia-Pacific region, the trans-Atlantic relationship, and other regions. Delegates are also discussing developments occurring within Australia and the Asia-Pacific region with European counterparts, and exploring opportunities to increase bilateral trade and investment. Mission Programmes The first EABC Mission in May 2006 was the first ever Australian business delegation to meet with European Commissioners and senior officials in Brussels. Since then, EABC members have met with over a third of the Commission members under President Barroso, many of whom continue to serve in his second administration which took office in early 2010. Business Mission programmes include a visit to Brussels; one or more Member States with whom Australia has a strong trade and investment partnership; and a Member State where opportunities exist to expand economic relations. Past missions have visited Antwerp, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, Lausanne, London, Madrid, Paris, Stockholm, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Venice, Vienna and Warsaw.
