• Administer the SEL Linguistic Screeners
• Obtain a beginning of the year writing samples
Week 1
MELD Objectives:
Students understand why protocols are important to the classroom culture.
Students will be introduced to the Participation and Discussion Protocols.
Students will be practice using the Discussion and Participation Protocols.
Students will work together to complete a task.
SL 6.1a. Come to discussions prepared, having read or studied required material; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence on the topic, text, or issue to probe and reflect on ideas under discussion.
SL 6.1c Pose and respond to specific questions with elaboration and detail by making comments that contribute to the topic, text, or issue under discussion.

Responsive Environment: The MELD Objectives and Essential Questions that are listed in this section can be used on our MELD Board. MELD Objectives: 1) Students will be able to engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-‐on-‐one, in groups, and teacher led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics and texts to produce complex oral output using all four Conversational Skills: Create, Clarify, Fortify, and Negotiate. 2) Students use conversation norms to build on others’ ideas, while expressing their own ideas clearly. Essential Questions: How has social media impacted the way we communicate with one another in the 21st century?
