Do not miss this great tradition...

You can still follow the ancient custom of blessing your home on the Epiphany. Blessed chalk is available in our churches to mark your doorway, or you can use the paper below in lieu of writing in chalk.

EPIPHANY

The traditional blessing begins with the family gathering in the living room before dinner. Together, they pray the “Our Father.” At this time, a member of the family marks the doorway with a piece of chalk as follows:

20 + C + M + B + 21

As the doorway is being marked, the presiding member of the household prays: “May all who come to our home this year rejoice to find Christ living among us; and may we seek and serve, in everyone we meet, that same Jesus who is Lord of all people, forever and ever. Amen.”

You may also add the following prayer:

God in Bethlehem and Cana, God of Jordan’s leaping waters,

In baptism you bring us into your family. You wed us and embrace us as your Beloved.

May we fill this place with kindness to one another, With hospitality to guests, and with abundant care for every stranger.

By the gentle light of a star, guide home all who seek you on paths of faith, hope, and love. Then we will join the angels in proclaiming your praise:

Glory in heaven and peace on earth, now and forever. Amen.

The C-M-B are the initials of the legendary names of the three Maji: Casper, Melchior, and Balthasar. The initials C+M+B also stand for the Latin words, “Christus Mansionem Benedicat,” which means: “May Christ bless this dwelling.” In the blessing of the threshold, we ask that all who pass through it this year may discover what the Magi discovered, the King of the Jews. Sprinkle holy water on the door and on the people. Then continue to each room of your home.

R.C.I.A. Christmas Outreach Project

The Christmas outreach project of R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) which has been a parish tradition for many, many years SURVIVED in spite of covid-19. The project provides gifts for the 350 prisoners at the Washington County jail and we adopt a family in need for Christmas. The gift bags include two stamped religious cards (the Knights of Columbus provided seven hundred stamps), toothpaste and a candy bar. The candidates, sponsors and team provide the cash to purchase for the adopted family.

On December 17, we gathered at St. Hilary Church Hall to pack the gift bags for the prisoner and wrap all the gifts for our adopted family.

Although we had to social distance, the bags were filled and the gifts were wrapped and delivered that night.

Welcome to St. James Parish!

We are pleased to welcome new family members to St. James Parish:

• Dr. Sean Lubuda • M/M Andrew & Connie Szafraniec and Ariel

We pray that their membership in our parish will be happy and spiritually enriching.

Second Collections... A second collection this weekend is for

Energy Needs. Next weekend, a second collection will be held for the St. Anthony/DePaul Schools.

Your generosity is appreciated.

After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a

dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same

words.

As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust.

Have you considered joining the Society of St.

Vincent de Paul so that you can live your Baptism more fully? Know that the members of the Society of

St. Vincent de Paul bring your gift directly to the poor and suffering in our parish. Please consider joining

the Society. You are welcome to call 724-986-5595.

If you’d prefer, email us at [email protected] for more information. Thank you!
