Dear French Woods Families, Tristan, Michael and I finally have settled in at home after returning to camp to get away from Hurricane Irma last month. Camp is just beautiful in the fall and we enjoyed being at camp to guide representatives from camps all over the country to see French Woods during the ACA Residential Camp Conference. I already have started hiring new staff members and have spoken to some incredible people. I will be heading to Australia at the end of November and then we’re off to the races!Registration for 2018 is well underway. Are you registered yet? Check for your name in the Center Section! A Note From Ron:

Attention: Registered CITs/SupersRegister for our first ever CIT Training and Leadership Retreat Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28, 2017. It will be held at camp and will include plenary sessions, panel discussions with former Supers now in college and a choice of breakout ses-sions including topics on conflict resolution, today’s teens most pressing challenges, decision making, choosing a college and much more. We have built in ‘down time’ for our CIT’s to socialize and a com-munity service project. The cost will be to $100 which will be a donation to the Hancock-French Woods Arts Alliance, Inc. - our not-for-profit arm of French Woods. We will provide bus transportation to and from Manhattan. While the CIT retreat is not mandatory, it will be very helpful in your role as a CIT with lots of training, bonding and loads of fun. So, please save the dates May 26-28, 2018.

Once registered (or re-registered), all camp forms can be accessed through your online Camp in Touch account. Sign in by again going to our homepage at www.frenchwoods.com and clicking on the yellow link called “Camp in Touch” found in the upper right hand corner. As you read this newsletter, Beth and I are preparing to go up to check on the progress on all our new projects at Camp. This will be year number 49 for me. In addition to all the campers I work with, I also have my six grandchildren there (Sydney, Josh, Grace, Bryce, Josephine and Tristan). Next summer five of them will be campers in the bunks and Syd on staff.Take a good look at the show list for 2018. There are several changes. It is my plan to work with middle camp directing several shows. We should have definite plans soon.

There are so many staff applications and returning campers. It’s sure to be an incredible summer in 2018. New projects include replacing several bunks, several new public rest rooms and watching the new theater progress.

Session 5!

Gabrielle Lieberman played the part of Peter Pan in the Cushman School’s production of Peter Pan.Gabrielle, also was selected as an “Outstanding Dancer” by the NYC Dance Alliance giving her the opportunity to comete at Nationals. This fall Jack McCarthy is playing the part of Douglas in the Off-Broadway production of Shadowlands.Halle Lipton is playing Pilar in Legally Blonde at a community theater in NJ this fall.Julie Newman recently auditioned for and was offered a spot in the Levine School’s Act Two pre-professional program.Ellyn Drysdale played the role of Grace in the September production of Annie Jr. at the Yorktown Stage in Yorktown, NY. She also has been cast as a Girl Scout, toy ballerina and ensemble dancer in the theater’s upcoming holiday production of Miracle on 34th Street.Jordan Kulick was accepted to Applause NY and is playing Isle in Spring Awakening.

Casey Beidel will be singing with the NJ All-State Chorus in Atlantic City during Veteran’s Day weekend.Aaron Simons will be performing in Cats this fall at the StarStruck Academy Theatre in Stuart, FL.Jessi Kaplan had the honor of singing the National Anthem at the October 1st Miami Heat game.Jessica Woodley is playing Alice in the Papermill Playhouse all star theater on tour production of Alice in WonderlandChris Pollack was cast as Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady

HFWAA Announces Raffle WinnersThe Hancock-French Woods Arts Alliance is please to announce the Camp Tuition Raffle Ticket Winners. The drawing was held August 4, 2017 at the French Woods Circus Fire and Fly Show.

GRAND PRIZE: The Silver Family (Free Camp Tuition for Cassi for the Session of their choice for 2018)SECOND PRIZE: The Chalmers Family ($1,500 OFF Camp Tuition for Phoenix for 2018)THIRD PRIZE: The Ortiz-Heaney Family ($500 OFF Camp Tuition for Sophia for 2018) French Woods Festival of the Arts is the sponsor of the HFWAA Raffle. 446 tickets were sold. $16,600 was raised. All proceeds went to the HFWAA college scholarship fund. HFWAA would like to thank the families who took a chance and in doing so gave a scholarship opportunity to some young adults who are both in need and committed to a career in the arts.

Session 5 will be held from August 26 through September 2, 2018. This session gives new campers of all ages an opportunity to “try-out” French Woods and get most of what French Woods offers in just one week. Many returning campers attend Session 5 beause they like a one week camp experience. Additionally, there are those campers who just want to extend for one more week because they just cannot get enough of French Woods.Session 5 campers participate in the French Woods Program with an individualized 6 period day comprised of 3 different Majors (you do each day) and 3 Minors (you choose from a list each morning). Majors include Theater, Dance, Music, Circus, Horseback, Magic, Rock and Roll, Visual Arts, Film, Sports (including Team Sports, Tennis and Watersports), Extreme Sports, Cooking and Fitness. Many of the Majors will culminate in a showcase, exhibition or presentation during visiting day for the parents & families of Session 5 campers which begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 1st. The Early Rate for the week is $1,025.00 and includes transportation to and from Newark Airport, Queens, Westchester, Manhattan, Philadelphia or Boston, meals, snacks and housing. Rates will go up on December 15th.Limited space is available! It’s the end of another great summer - my 37th and the camps 48th. Three of my grandchildren are now attending French Woods and the fourth should be joining them in a year. French Woods was a life changing experience for my two children who were FW campers and it’s becoming just that for my grandchildren.This summer was filled with personal growth for all of our campers, great friends and a fun time. We are now back in the Florida office evaluating the summer and making plans for

2018 programming, staff and of course our terrific French Woods camp facility. As of October 1, 2017, there are only 252 days until Session 1, 2018 and 271 days until Session 2.Rose and I, as well as the rest of the French Woods office staff, will begin traveling to meet new and returning families throughout the states and from around the world. We are looking for some families to host open houses. If you are interested in helping out, please call me. You can find out where we are going to be visiting by checking us out at www.frenchwoods.com or on facebook.Our Early Registration campaign continues with Ron holding tuition rates down for our campers until December 15th. If you haven’t done so, be sure to take advantage of these rates that will be going up on that date. We will be holding a First Time Campers (with their parents) Get Together at camp on Sunday, June 3, 2018. A ‘meet and greet’, lunch in our dining room prepared by our executive chef, sample camp activities, info session, tours of camp, and more will be the agenda for the day. We highly recommend it to any first time family who is able to travel to camp and who wants to become more familiar with French Woods. It gives your campers a ‘leg up’ to be able to meet us, get more acquainted with our campus and meet other new families.We extend our hearfelt prayers to all our camp families from Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands who have suffered untold damage from the fall hurricanes, as well as to our families in Mexico periled by the earthquakes and our families in Northern California who are experiencing mass destruction due to the raging Wildfires.
