7. Don’t be afraid to mix it upwith a color--or two
• Use color in the horizontal rules
• Good choices– Blues– Greens– Grays
• Avoid red

6. Include a testimonial
• Use the text box function in Word.
• Use a comment from a letter of recommendation or annual review.

5. Include the number ofyears in each position
• Focus on tenure rather than dates if been out of the workforce for some time.
• Include the dates as well, particularly if you were with each company for a significant period of time.

4. Don’t have enough materialto cover two full pages?
• Don’t increase your margins.
• Don’t drive up your font size.
• Use vertical white space.

3. Create a graph or a chart
• Convey increase or decrease in a critical metric.
• Use simple visuals, because understands “up” or “down” on a visceral level.

• Improve your readability in applicant tracking systems (ATSs).
• Put page numbers in the header or footer of your document.
