7 Steps to take when applying to college in Rhode Island

1. Consider your in state options.

Students often fail to look at the amazing programs offered by their in state institutions. See what they have to offer and how your family could save money by choosing them!

2. Apply to URI before 12/1.

To be considered for URI’s highest level scholarship, students must submit their applications by December 1. Don’t lose out on free money by missing the deadline!

3. Apply to RIC before 12/15.

To be considered for RIC’s Presidential Scholarship, students must submit their applications by December 15. Awards start at $2,000.

4. Complete the FAFSA by 3/1.

To be eligible for the Rhode Island State Grant, your family must submit your FAFSA by March 1. Awards vary from year to year.

5. Find local scholarships

Local scholarships are a great way to pay for college books, living expenses, and tuition & fees. Start your search at your guidance office and online at RIScholarships.org.

6. Use the College Planning Center of RI.

This totally free resource will help you with all aspects of the college planning and financial aid processes. Just book your free appointment at www.collegeplanningcenter.org.

7. Reduce stress with the Common App

So many schools now accept the Common Application. Students can reduce the stress of the college application season by using this form instead of individual applications, where acceptable.
