How to enter a classroom.

The first 5 minutes of class is Focus Time. There is no talking the first 5 minutes of class so you can work on your bellringer.

You are to enter the classroom Quietly.Find and sit in your assigned seat.Begin working on your bellringer

immediately. Pencil sharpening should be done BEFORE the Tardy

Bell Rings!

When you’re tardy.

If you have and excuse slip: Show me your planner with a signed hall pass for the

tardy.

• If you do NOT have an excuse slip:• Sign the Tardy Sheet• Take your seat and begin working on the current

assignment.

• You are responsible for missed work or announcements due to your Tardy.

Getting your attention.

I will raise my hand.You will then raise your hand.Then you will be quiet and listen for

instructions.

I will do the “Classroom Clap”

“Extra Credit”

I give no extra credit.In order to be fair, I would have to make these

points available to all my students.I have limited time for grading such work,

especially at the end of a grading period when most of it tends to be submitted.

I strongly feel that a student who is struggling with basic material should not be spending his/her time doing optional supplementary work.

His/her time should be spent working to learn the basic material already required by either seeking extra help from me, before or after school, or by getting special tutoring from another reputable source.

Place your papers on the desk next to you. When you receive a paper, place yours on top and

continue passing the stack to your left. I will come and collect the papers.

Classroom Discussions

Please participate! I want to hear what you have to say! Make all questions and comments relevant to the

current discussion. If your question is off the topic write it down and

ask later.

When you have to go to the bathroom.

Hold up 3 fingers.If I nod, fill out your hall pass with today's date, time and destination.THEN bring your hall pass to me for a

signature.You will have 3 min to go to the bathroom.If you are gone for longer than 3 min, you will

be considered skipping. Skipping results in a disciplinary referral and a call

home.

Announcements

When an announcement comes on over the speaker, we are to be SILENT!

If the announcement is about an emergency like a lockdown, I need to be able to hear it.

Moving around the room.

Be wise. If I’m in the middle of talking, that

is NOT the time to do it. If you are working on a lab or

class work, then find a good time to get up and sharpen a pencil, throw away trash, etc.

You are all smart enough to know when a good time and bad time is to get up and move around or make noises.

Class dismissal.

The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell Wait until the teacher finishes and officially

dismisses you with, “Have a nice day!”

Substitute Teacher.

You are to treat the Substitute Teacher with Respect.

You are to follow directions the FIRST time they are given.

You should behave as if I am still here.

If the Substitute writes your name down, you will have detention. Period.

Going to Lunch.

When we go to lunch, we are to go in an orderly fashion. Other classes are still in session, so do so quietly.

We will line up in a SINGLE FILED LINE!We will walk down the hall in our assigned

square SILENTLY! If you choose to talk, we will turn around and go back to the classroom to start again.

It only takes a minute to get to the lunch room and you can talk to each other there.

Where to Sit for Lunch.

We will have lunch from 12:35 to 1:00. We will sit at tables 10-14 on the West (Left)

Side.You have assigned seats at lunch. If we all walk down to and from lunch quietly and

behave, you can have a free day at lunch and sit where you like (at our assigned tables).

After lunch, we will return to the classroom for the rest of the period. We will have work to do, so come straight to class! Don’t

be tardy!

Cleaning up After Lunch.

You are all responsible young adults and are expected to act that way when leaving the lunchroom.

This includes leaving the table CLEAN!You are to clean up after yourselves.If someone leaves a wrapper on the table,

just pick it up. It’s not mine either!It is rude to leave behind messes for others to

clean up.Assign Lunch Table Cleanup duties.

Other Adults in class.

You are to continue working as if they were not there.

You are NOT to stop working and talk to your neighbors about our new visitor.

You are to treat EVERYONE who enters the classroom with respect.

Computer Lab.

When we go to someone else's room or to the computer lab, you are to act respectfully.

Do not touch anything that does not belong to you.

You are to conduct the work that has been assigned to you.

You are to follow BOTH Ms. Helm’s Classroom Guidelines AND any rules for that room.

During a Fire Drill

If we have a fire drill:You are to remain calm.Leave the classroom in an orderly fashion.Exit the building as practiced.Collect in our assigned area.Line up with members of Ms. HELM’S

CLASS!Wait for instructions.

Tornado Drill

We will line up in a single filed line.You are to leave the classroom in an orderly

fashion.Go straight down the stairs… NOT to your

locker, bathroom, friends class…Sit with our class in our assigned area or

wherever else you are asked to sit.You are to remain SILENT! Students who chose not to follow instructions

will be sent to Mr. Davis.

Lock Down

In case of a lock down, you are to: 1. Go to the back of the classroom near the sink. 2. Sit down. 3. Be quiet. There in ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING during

lockdowns. EVEN if someone knocks on the door or asks

questions, WE are ALL TO REMAIN QUIET! Even Me!

Take these seriously!

I take all of these drills SERIOUSLY!Anyone who chooses NOT to follow procedure

will result in a Disciplinary Referral and a call home.

All of these procedures are for YOUR safety. They have all been designed because of tragedies that have happened in the past. I do not want any of those things to happen to you! Follow directions!

If you have a substitute on a day with a drill, you are to follow all Procedures as stated.
