• What is Ramp-Up? – Develop knowledge, skills, habits for postsecondary success

• Five Ramp-Up Pillars • Academic, Admissions, Career, Financial, Personal/Social

• Ramp-Up Tools– Readiness Rubric and Postsecondary Plan

• SMART Goals– Specific, Measurable, Achievable– Relevant, Timely

Growth Mindset • Fixed mindset – Believes intelligence & abilities cannot be changed

• Growth mindset– Believes abilities and intelligence can change

through effort and learning – Constantly puts forth effort: improves their abilities.– Learn from mistakes: can lead to improvement– Persist: Do not give up!

Learning Styles • Three learning styles– Auditory, Kinesthetic, Visual– More specific classifications based on these 3 styles

• There are different types of intelligences– Most people excel in at least one learning styles

• Learning styles important to consider when– Selecting careers of interest – Selecting colleges and majors

Build Belief: Cracking the Myth • Misconceptions about postsecondary preparation– I can’t afford college– Stellar athlete or students only get financial aid– It’s better to take easier classes in and get better grades– I don’t have to worry about my grades in middle school

• How to build belief you can succeed in college– Crack the myths about postsecondary preparation – Learn stories from people like you that have gone to college– Display effort and persistence

GASP Projects • Gather– To collect information

• Analyze– To study the information closely

• Synthesize– To combine information from multiple sources

• Present– To share the information

• GASP projects builds critical thinking
