Prelude

Welcome

Morning Dialogue based on today’s Psalm, Psalm 85:8-13I will listen to what the Lord God is saying;for you speak peace to your faithf ul peopleand to those who turn their hearts to you.Truly, your salvation is very near to those who fear you, that your glory may dwell in our land. Steadfast love and faithfulness have met together;righteousness and peace have  kissed each other.Faithfulness shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. The Lord will indeed grant prosperity, and our land will yield its increase.Righteousness shall go before the Lordand shall prepare for God a pathway.

First Reading - Amos 7:7-15This is what [the Lord God] showed me: the Lordwas standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in hand. And the Lord said tome, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “Aplumb line.” Then the Lord said,  “See, I amsetting a plumb line in the midst of my peopleIsrael; I will never again pass them by; the highplaces of Isaac shall be made desolate, and thesanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste, and I willrise against the house of Jeroboam with thesword.”

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent to KingJeroboam of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspiredagainst you in the very center of the house ofIsrael; the land is not able to bear all his words. Forthus Amos has said, ‘Jeroboam shall die by thesword, and Israel must go into exile away from hisland.’ ”

And Amaziah said to Amos, “O seer, go, ee away

to the land of Judah, earn your bread there, and

prophesy there; but never again prophesy at

Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a

temple of the kingdom.”

Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I am no prophet, nor a prophet’s son; but I am a herdsman, and adresser of sycamore trees, and the Lord took mefrom following the ock, and the Lord said to me,‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ ”

Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

Second Reading - Ephesians 1:11-14

In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose ofhim who accomplishes all things according to hiscounsel and will, so that we, who were the rst toset our hope on Christ, might live for the praiseof his glory. In him you also, when you had heardthe word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with theseal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is thepledge of our inheritance toward redemption asGod’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Word of God, Word of life. Thanks be to God.

Demos gracias a Dios.

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel Reading - Mark 6:14-29The holy gospel according to Mark, the sixth chapter.Glory to you, O Lord.

King Herod heard of [the disciples’preaching,] for Jesus’ name had become known. Some were saying, “John the baptizer has been

raised from the dead; and for this reason thesepowers are at work in him.” But others said, “It isElijah.” And others said, “It is a prophet, like oneof the prophets of old.” But when Herod heardof it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has beenraised.”

For Herod himself had sent men who arrestedJohn, bound him, and put him in prison onaccount of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod had married her. For John hadbeen telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you tohave your brother’s wife.” And Herodias had agrudge against him, and wanted to kill him. Butshe could not, for Herod feared John, knowingthat he was a righteous and holy man, and heprotected him. When he heard him, he wasgreatly perplexed; and yet he liked to listen tohim. But an opportunity came when Herod onhis birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers andocers and for the leaders of Galilee. When hisdaughter Herodias came in and danced, shepleased Herod and his guests; and the king saidto the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and Iwill give it.” And he solemnly swore to her,“Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even halfof my kingdom.” She went out and said to hermother, “What should I ask for?” She replied,“The head of John the baptizer.” Immediatelyshe rushed back to the king and requested, “Iwant you to give me at once the head of John theBaptist on a platter.” The king was deeplygrieved; yet out of regard for his oaths and for theguests, he did not want to refuseher. Immediately the king sent a soldier of theguard with orders to bring John’s head. He wentand beheaded him in the prison, brought hishead on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then thegirl gave it to her mother. When his disciples

Holy CommunionWe believe that Jesus Christ is present in Holy Communion with gifts of forgiveness, life and salvation. All whohunger for the presence of Christ in their life are invited to partake. By our participation in this meal, we arestrengthened in faith and in life. All are welcome to commune.

If you are sitting with others...When sharing the bread with someone, say to them: “This is the body of Christ, given for you.” When sharingthe wine or grape juice, say, “This is the blood of Christ, shed for you.”

If you aren’t with others…Hear the voice of the pastor naming these promises of grace and life for you. If you’d prefer a blessing, hear thesepromises: “You are a beloved child of God. May God strengthen you with grace through Christ for all we facetoday.”

If you are worshipping in-person today…We invite people to come forward to receive the elements and hear the words of promise; we will avoid directphysical contact. Receptacles are available for used cups and trash. If you brought your own elements, see above.
