Edition 1 Revision1c 11-2002 INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL for 728 Serie AIR MOTORS IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION ENCLOSED. READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE OPERATING. FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN INJURY. SAFETY RECOMMENDATION: ? Always bleed of the air supply and disconnect the air supply hose before installing, removing or adjusting any accessory on this tool, or before performing any maintenance on this tool. For top performance and maximum durability of parts, operate this tool at 90 psig (6,2 bar/620kPa) maxi AIR PRESSURE WITH ¼” (6mm) AIR SUPPLY HOSE. LUBRICATION: Oil: Ingersoll-Rand N°10 Lubricant Grease: Ingersoll-Rand N°28 Lubricant. We recommend the use of an air line lubricator in the air supply line. Attach the unit as close to the tool as practical. Where the lubricator cannot be permanently mounted, we recommend using an Ingersoll-Rand N° NL-4 Lubricator. For permanent installations, we recommend using an Ingersoll-Rand C08-C2-FKG0, Filter-Lubricator- Regulator unit. These units have ¼” pipe tap inlet and outlet and 148ml oil capacity. Larger capacity may be used, but do not use a unit having less than a ¼” pipe tap inlet and outlet. Adjust the lubricator so there is a slight oil mist in the exhaust. Whenever the gear end of the motor is disassembled, lubricate the gear train as follows: For single reduction Motors, work approximately 15cc of the recommended grease into the gearing and around the bearings on the spindle. For double reduction Motors, work approximately 19cc of the recommended grease into the gear train and around the bearings on the spindle. For triple reduction Motors, works approximately 22cc of the recommended grease into the gear train and around the bearings on the spindle.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION ENCLOSED.READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE OPERATING.

FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS COULDRESULT IN INJURY.

SAFETY RECOMMENDATION:

? Always bleed of the air supply anddisconnect the air supply hose beforeinstalling, removing or adjusting anyaccessory on this tool, or beforeperforming any maintenance on thistool.

For top performance and maximumdurability of parts, operate this tool at 90psig (6,2 bar/620kPa) maxi AIRPRESSURE WITH ¼” (6mm) AIRSUPPLY HOSE.

LUBRICATION:Oil: Ingersoll-Rand N°10 LubricantGrease: Ingersoll-Rand N°28Lubricant.We recommend the use of an air linelubricator in the air supply line. Attachthe unit as close to the tool as practical.Where the lubricator cannot bepermanently mounted, we recommendusing an Ingersoll-Rand N° NL-4Lubricator. For permanent installations,we recommend using an Ingersoll-RandC08-C2-FKG0, Filter-Lubricator-Regulator unit.

These units have ¼” pipe tap inlet andoutlet and 148ml oil capacity. Largercapacity may be used, but do not use aunit having less than a ¼” pipe tap inletand outlet. Adjust the lubricator so thereis a slight oil mist in the exhaust.Whenever the gear end of the motor isdisassembled, lubricate the gear train asfollows:For single reduction Motors, workapproximately 15cc of the recommendedgrease into the gearing and around thebearings on the spindle. For double reduction Motors, workapproximately 19cc of the recommendedgrease into the gear train and around thebearings on the spindle. For triple reduction Motors, worksapproximately 22cc of the recommendedgrease into the gear train and around thebearings on the spindle.

OPERATIONAL DATA

1- Operating temperature

The 728 motor serie has been design for theoperating ranges from –30 to +100°C.However for any application where thetemperature will be below +5°C may causefreeze-up if moisture is in the line. For suchapplication, we will recommend to use an airDryer

2- Operating Feed Pressure

The 728 serie motor may be operated from 2bars up to 7 bars, in order to get consistentperformances.

3- Attitude

The 728 motor serie can be operated in allpositions providing adequat airline lubrication.

4- Feeder media

The 728 motor serie is design in order to useair compressed or nitrogen. Never Use naturalgas without getting approval fromINGERSOLL-RAND .

5- Filtration

Always use clean, dry air. A 60 micron filtrationor better is recommended.

6- Lubrication

Before starting the air motor ,detach the airhose and inject about 2.5 cc of IRAX N°50P oilor SAE 10.Choose the lubricator suitable for the flowrequired. The lubrication rate is as follow : 3 drops perminute per H.P for continuous operation.

6 drops perminute per H.P for intermittent operation.

7- Environment

The 728 motor serie can be used without anyrestriction ,just make sure the filtration andlubrication are goodThe material used for manufacturing the motorgive the possibility to use the 728 SERIE evenin underground application. For applicationunder water, it is recommended to requestengineering recommendation before to selectand use the air motor. In any case under waterit is necessary to pipe away the exhaust.

8- Expected life

The life of the motor will depend of the qualityof the air compressed, the lubrication, application. For more information we will recommend tocontact our service department or the nearestIngersoll-Rand Authorized Distributor.

TYPICAL INSTALLATION

A four-way Throttle Valve (whether manually, remotely, or automatically controlled)must be usedin the air supply line to serie 728 Reversible Motors, as one motor inlet is expelling secondary exhaustair, and therefore must be open to atmosphere whenever the opposite inlet is admitting live air to themotor. The use of any throttle valve that close or restricts the secondary exhaust line will result insufficient back pressure to drastically reduce the speed and power of the motor.

When the application requires Throttle Valve in each air line, the two three-way valves must beused.
