From Setup To Sanding: These are the supplies we suggest you have on hand to com-

plete this pen kit:

� Letter “O” Pen Maker’s Bit

� 2 - 3⁄4" x 3⁄4" x 23⁄16" Pen Blanks

� Pen Mandrel

� Classic American Style Bushings (06R07)

� Thick CA or 5-Minute Epoxy

� Drill or Drill Press

� Sandpaper/Micro-Mesh

� Barrel Trimmer

� Pen Press

� Eye & Ear Protection

� Dust Mask

Cutting & Drilling Blanks: Note: Additional length has been

added to the overall length of the

blank to accommodate for squaring

the ends of the blank.

Gluing Blanks to Tubes: Rough the entire surface of the tube using 180-grit paper.

Next, using either a thick CA or 5-Minute Epoxy, apply adhe-sive to both the tube and the inside of the blank. To secure the brass tube into the inside of the blank make sure to rotate the tube as you insert it into the blank. This will help ensure even coverage of the adhesive and a much more secure bond.

Squaring the Blank to Length: When squaring the blanks to length work only to the brass.

Removing brass will affect the overall length of the blank

which is critical to the proper operation of the pen.

Mandrel Preparation:

Turning & Finishing the Blanks: The Body diameter must match exactly to the .396" diameter

bushing. If this diameter is not precisely obtained, the Cap

and Body will not operate properly, causing them to bind.

necessary clean any remaining material/glue from the tube

prior to assembly.

With the lathe spinning, begin sanding with 120-grit paper

and progress through the finer grits finishing at 320-grit. Once

finished with sanding apply a finish of your choice.

Pen Assembly:

Cap: � Press the Finial Clip Bushing (I) tapered end first, flush into

the .496" diameter, non-tenon end of the Finished Cap (H).

� Assemble the Center Band (G) which consists of three

pieces (G1, G2, G3). Once assembled, press onto the brass

tenon created during the turning process. If the Center Band

(G) is loose, we recommend carefully gluing it into place with

a small drop of CA glue.

Body: � Press Nib (A) into tapered end of the Nib Holder (B).

� Next slide the Accent Band (C) onto the post of the Nib

Holder (B). If assembling a Woodcraft Gold kit the Accent

Band will consist of three pieces (C1, C2, C3) that will need to

be assembled as shown in the above image.

� Press the Nib Assembly (A, B, C) into one end of the .396"

diameter end of the Finished Body (D).

� Press the Twist Mechanism Holder (E) into the opposite

end of the .396" diameter end of the Finished Body (D).

� Slide Spring (L) small end first onto the Ink Refill (M).

� Insert the Ink Refill (M) through the opening of the Twist

Mechanism Holder (E).

� Place the Twist Mechanism (F) over the Ink Refill (M) and

thread onto the Twist Mechanism Holder (E).

� Insert the threads of the Finial (K) through the opening of

Clip (J) and thread into the Finial Clip Bushing (I).

� To complete the assembly use a clamp or vise that will

open at least 6". Place the Finished Cap (H) over the end of

the Twist Mechanism (F) and align the wood grain or pattern

if necessary. Press the two halves together. This process will

join the Finial Clip Bushing (I) and the Twist Mechanism (F)

securing the two halves. If the pen top has not been secured

to the bottom, unthread the Finial (K) leaving approximately 1/16" gap and press again until the Finial is flush. This action

will further seat the Finial Clip Bushing (I) and engage the

Twist Mechanism (F).
