Detailed Lesson
Before the Task- During the Task-After the Task-
1) Students brainstorm the different parts that make up a TV news programme (National,
International, Sport…)
2) Students brainstorm the type of opening that is used when starting the news.
3) Different opening styles are shown (min 2.08, 2.58 and 4.25) and students add them to
their list.
4) Students are shown three real news with their headlines and they have to write down
what the headlines are and the type of information they give. They compare their
answers in pairs. Then, the solutions are given as a whole class.
5) In groups of 4, they think of the structure of their News programme using POPPLET.
They decide who is going to write about what. The assessment worksheet is given so
that they pay attention to all the aspects.
6) The second handout is given. Individually they write the two pieces of news they agreed
in their group. Once the grammar, spelling, coherence and cohesion mistakes have
been corrected, students share their news in their Padlet wall. Each group will have one
wall and they will be able to read all the corrected works of their peers.
7) Four news out of the eight that have been written will be chosen for their programme.
8) Students will also make an interview as real testimony to support their news. In order to
do that, in their groups, they will think of questions that could be asked related to their
news.
9) Students will use the storyboard template to decide the way they will organize The
News.
10) The news will be recorded in a class period outside the classroom.
Presentation-
Students will present their work in front of the class.
