Differential RelaysSiemensLSA2.2.3 .April 2000 1ApplicationThe 7SD511/512 current comparisonprotection units are for fast and selectiveshort-circuit protection of cables andoverhead lines of all voltage levels. Thecombination of dynamic and steady-statemeasurement makes the current comparison protection sensitive to internal high-resistant faults and extremely stable during short-circuit through currents.Neither the treatment of the networkneutrals nor the load current has an influence on the short-circuit sensitivity. Thedigital transmission of protection datanormally occurs via fibre optics. The integrated optical interfaces facilitate a directconnection up to 30 km. In addition anisolated V.24 interface (RS 232C) permitsthe connection to a powerful optoamplifier or a PCM transmission unit. Theprotection also includes an integratedthermal replica for monitoring the current-induced heat losses and the datatransmission and an emergency overcurrent protection. In addition the 7SD512has an automatic-reclosure function. Thedevices can interface with conventionalswitchgear systems or alternatively beintegrated in the modern substation control system SINAUT LSA.ConstructionThe units are of compact design and include all components for the measuredvalue formation and evaluation, operatorpanel and display field, alarm and trip outputs, binary input option, serial interfacesand auxiliary voltage DC/DC converter. The device can be supplied in three casevariations. The model for panel surfacemounting is supplied with two-tier terminals accessible from the front. Thevariants for panel flush mounting orcubicle mounting have rear connectionterminals and are available with orwithout glass cover.Mode of operationThe 7SD51 current comparison protectionunits have fully digital measurement processing from the scanning and digitisation of measured values to the trip decisions for the circuit-breakers.Digital measurement methods largelysuppress the influence of high-frequencytransients, transient DC components, anddiffering current transformer saturationlevels.FeaturesD Selective short-circuit protection forcables and overhead linesD Overload protection with thermal characteristicD Digital transmission of protection datavia fibre optics or serial based communication networksD Circuit-breaker intertripping and remote trip signal transfer. An operator program DIGSI is available forconvenient and clear relay setting, analysis of fault recordings and event recordings as well as for commissioning. The substation control interface is available as an 820 nm fibre optic interfacefor connection to either the substationcontrol system or to a central protectiondata unit (protocol either acc. to Siemensspecifications or - as an option - acc. toIEC 60870-5-103).The interface to the remote line end isdesigned as a fibre optic interface for thehigh security transmission of informationvia fibre optic cable (protocol according toDIN 19 244 with Hamming distanced = 4 ). As integrated optic transmitter a820 nm or 1300 nm interface is available.Optionally, an isolated V.24 interface(RS 232C) permits connection to a powerful optoelectric converter or PCM transmission units with 14.4/19.2 kbaudasynchronous data inputs and outputs.SettingsAll setting parameters can be input viathe integrated operator panel and displayfield or via a PC under user control. Theparameters are written into non-volatilememories so that the settings are secureeven during interruption of the supplyvoltage.SelfmonitoringHardware and software are continuouslymonitored and any irregularities are immediately detected and alarmed. Thus, the security, reliability and availability aresignificantly improved.7SD511/512 Current comparison protection relay (Version V3) for overhead lines and cablesFig. 2Steady-state tripping characteristicLoad current or throughshort-circuit current7SD51 7SD51I1I21-1 1-1ISTATINISTATINI2INI1INTripTrip-2-2 22Fig. 3Dynamic tripping characteristic7SD51 7SD51I1I2Steady-state load orshort-circuit current121 2IDYNSwitchInINDI1INIDYNINIDYNSwitchonINIDYNINDI2INTrip-2Trip-1-2 -1Differential RelaysSiemensLSA2.2.3 .April 2000 3Current comparison protection forcables and overhead linesThe 7SD511/512 current comparisonprotection units have the following features:D Measurements are performed separately for each phase; thus, the tripsensitivity is independent of the typeof faultD Dynamic measurement method withhigh sensitivity below rated current enables the recognition and disconnection of high-ohmic short-circuits evenwith large through load currents (asper Fig. 3).D Steady-state measurement methodwith tripping characteristic (as perFig. 2).D When the line is switched in, the dynamic tripping characteristic can berendered less sensitive for four cyclesvia a setting valueIDYN SWITCH-IN (asper Fig. 3).D Insensitive to DC current componentsand transformation errors of currenttransformersD Insensitive to high-frequency transienteventsD High stability during external faultseven with different current transformer saturation levels.Digital transmission of protection datato the remote line end via fibre opticsThe data required for the current comparison principle are cyclically exchanged induplex mode in the form of frames between the protection units. The framesare secured with a hamming distancesufficient for fibre transmission and communication networks. The data transfer has the following advantages:D Insensitive to electromagnetic interferenceD Extra isolation not required (isolatingtransformers as required for transmission of analog protection data are notnecessary)D Supervision of the entire transmissionpath between the protection unitswithout additional equipment.D Especially for communication-network-applications the automatic delaymeasurement and the correction ofthis delay in the differential-trip decision is included in the relay.Circuit-breaker intertripping and remote trip signal transferIf weak input conditions at the oppositeline end are present, then that circuit-breaker can be disconnected via thesame protection data transfer channel. Aremote trip signal can also be transferredto the remote line end from, for example,a circuit-breaker back-up protection or atransformer differential protection via abinary input. In addition up to four binary input eventsare signalled at the remote with closed/open contacts.Thermal overload protectionA built-in overload protection with analarm stage is provided for the thermalprotection of cables. The trip time characteristics (Fig. 4) areexponential functions according toIEC 60255-8 and consider the current-initiated heat losses from the operationalcurrents as well as the simultaneouscooling effect of the coolant. The preloadis thus considered in the trip times foroverloads. An adjustable alarm stage can initiate analarm before tripping is initiated.7SD511/512 Current comparison protection relay (Version V3) for overhead lines and cablesFig. 4Trip time characteristics of the overload protection function10010502053210,50,30,20,10,050,031 2 3 4 5 8 1010005001005010 5 110010502053210,50,30,20,10,050,031 2 3 4 5 8 101000500100501051t (min) Parameter:Setting valueTime constantt (min)without preloadIk@INt (min) Parameter:Setting valueTime constantt (min)with 90 % preloadIk@INDifferential RelaysSiemensLSA2.2.3.April 2000 4Overcurrent-time protection as emergency functionImmediately after loss of data transmission to the remote line end both relayscan work as overcurrent-time protectionrelays, alternatively in definite-time orinverse time overcurrent protectionmode. Both the definite-time and the inverse time overcurrent protection modeshave two levels of operation, i. e. apartfrom the overcurrent level (I>) a high-setelement (I>>) is also provided. In both, the definite-time and the inverse timeovercurrent protection modes, the high-set element has a definite-time overcurrent characteristic. As soon as the datatransmission works again the currentcomparison protection is automaticallyswitched on.Auto-reclose functionThe relay 7SD512 has an auto-reclose(AR) facility. The range of functions include:D Three-pole AR for all fault typesD Single-pole AR for single-phase faults,no reclose for multi-phase faultsD Single-pole AR for single-phase faultsand three-pole AR for multi-phasefaultsD Multi-shot ARD Integration with external AR equipment with communication via binary(contact) inputs and outputsD Control by an external protectionscheme.Fault recordingThe digital measured values for thephase and earth currents are stored before fault inception and after fault inception. This data can be transferred eitherto the coordinated substation control system SINAUT LSA or to a PC for analysis. If the IEC 60870-5-103 standard interface is used, up to 8 fault recordings canbe stored. The data memory is organizedas a circular buffer with a maximumlength of 5 s (at fN = 50 Hz). The oldestfault recordings are overwritten by themost recent. A fault recording can alsobe started via a binary input or, as an aidto commissioning, via the integrated operator panel or PC. The recording durationcan then be parameterized.IndicationsThe 7SD511/512 units provide detaileddata for the analysis of faults and checking states during operation. The followingindication memories are backed upagainst power failure.D Fault indicationsThe last three fault logs can be called. If a fault occurs again, the oldest faultis overwritten.D Operational indicationsAll indications and states that occurare stored in the circular buffer. Moreover there is an operational analogvalue display. This is an LC display onwhich any two operational analogvalues can be displayed.Marshalling of command and alarm/event relays, LEDs and binary inputsAll input/output relays and indicatingLEDs may be functionally allocated according to the user's requirements.CommissioningDue to the digital signal transmission tothe remote line end, commissioning effort is reduced by measurement and indication of:D Load currents of the local and remotestationD Transfer time of signals from one station to the other (delay time measurement)D Phase sequence of the local stationD Phase allocation of the conductors between the stationsD Test mode, that can be activated by abinary input signal. This mode allowsthe testing of the local relay withouteffecting the remote relay. This enables the current transformer connections, the polarity of the current transformers, phase sequence and phase allocation to be tested from the one end.Via binary input a test-mode can be activated. For this, the remote station is informed that local tests are running. Thus,an unwanted OFF-command is prevented when during local tests differential values are received.Real time clock, Battery bufferedannunciationsThe VDEW add-on (VDEW is theAssociation of German Power Utilities)contains a battery-backed quartz clockthat can be synchronized for each binaryinput. Moreover, the operational and faultindications and the LED display arestored in a non-volatile memory.7SD511/512 Current comparison protection relay (Version V3) for overhead lines and cablesDifferential RelaysSiemens LSA2.2.3.April 2000 5Technical dataInput circuits RatedcurrentINRatedfrequency fNcanbeparameterizedOverloadcapacityofcurrentinputs, thermal continuous10s1sdynamic;half-cyclePowerconsumptionofcurrentinputs atIN=1AatIN=5A1or5A50or60Hz4xIN30xIN100xIN250xINor earthIE>Highsetcurrent phaseI (DMT)orearthIE (DMT)Timemultiplier tpPick-upvalueCharacteristicsaccordingtoIEC60255-4,paragraph3.5.2orBS142LinearcurrentrangeTolerancesPick-upvalueTimeIp / IN=0.1to4I/IN=0.1to15or0.1to10respectively0.05to3.2s1.1xIpnormal inverse,veryinverse,extremelyinverse20xIN"5%v5%for2 v(I/IP>) v20and tp=1Load monitoring OperationalcurrentsMeasurementrangeToleranceOverloadprotectionvaluesConductor temperatureMeasurementrangeToleranceIL1;IL2;IL3;IE0to240%INv2%ofratedvalueQ/Qtripcalculated0to240%v3%referredtoQtripFault event recording Faultevents storageofthelastthreefaulteventsFault recording Phasecurrents(instantaneousvalues)ResolutionofinstantaneousvaluesRetentiontimeStartsrecordingoniL1; iL2; iL3; iE1.66at fN=50Hz1.39at fN=60Hzmax.8in19srecordingbufferEnergizing,PC/LSAoperation,tripping,binaryinput7SD511/512 Current comparison protection relay (Version V3) for overhead lines and cablesDifferential RelaysSiemensLSA2.2.3.April 2000 8SelectionandorderingdataOrder No.7SD511/512currentcomparisonprotectionrelay 7SD51 j j- j jAj j- j jA 0Auto-reclose functionwithout auto-reclose function (AR)with single and three-pole auto-reclose function (AR)12Rated current for 50/60 Hz AC1 A5 A15Auxiliary voltage supply24, 48 V DC60, 110, 125 V DC220, 250 V DC245Constructionfor panel surface mountingfor panel flush mounting or cubicle mountingfor panel flush mounting or cubicle mounting, without glass coverBCECountry-specific presetting/languageGerman/English/Spanish presetting 0With real-time clock, with non-volatile memory, software version V3 2Interface for protection data transmission to the remote stationwired, 2 kV isolated interface, V.24 (RS 232C)Fibre optic interface, 820 nm (maximum length 1.5 to 2 km)Fibre optic interface, 1300 nm (maximum length 30 km)012System interface/substation control interfacewithoutwith fibre optic interface, 820 nm (maximum length 1.5 to 2 km)ACAccessoriesBestell-Nr.Opto electricalconverter(fibre-optictoasynchronousRS232)7XV5652-0AA00Constriction for wall mounting and top hat mountingOptical820nm/1300nmconverter 7XV5451-0AA00820 nm/1300 nm converter for hat rail mounting in EG90 housing.
