1. Great loCation

The world class 7stanes mountain bike trails

are located in the south of Scotland, covering

the regions of Dumfries and Galloway and the

Scottish Borders. All 7stanes are situated in

Forestry Commission Scotland forests. They

are all individual and host unique mountain

biking experiences.

Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish

Borders are well known for their impressive

and stunning scenery. Both offer a great

base for exploring the great outdoors, wildlife,

culture, history and activities all year round.

The 7stanes Mountain Biking Community Interest Company (CIC)

was formed in October 2010 to promote the 7stanes centres. It is

a not for profit organisation, meaning that any monies raised go

back into making the CIC activities of marketing and promotion

sustainable. All activities are for the benefit of mountain bikers

and include the maintenance of the website, trail guides, including

updates on trails, competitions, newsletters, merchandise, visitor

pay back schemes and connectivity with businesses at a national

and local level.

The CIC employs 2 members of staff who report to the 7stanes

CIC Board, which is made up of 12 public and private sector

representatives.

nRobin McKelvie, travel writer, broadcaster and photographer;

“Glentress, probably the finest mountain bike centre in Scotland.”

nTricia Wallace;

“Rode the blues, reds and a few blacks at Glentress on a recent visit home from California - lots of fun, great trails, love the one way system and separate trails for hikers. Wish 7stanes had been around when I lived here! Coming back with my hubby next year!”

nGorsebank Camping Cabins; “Love the Stanes they keep us busy in the quiet months - even

appreciate the crazy adrenalin junkies who sleep all day and then go out late afternoon night riding the Hardrock Trail at Dalbeattie!!”

5. Great sport

With an estimated 11.8 million people who own a mountain bike in the UK, mountain biking is set for significant growth over the next five years. (‘Economic Value of Mountain Biking in Scotland’ report commissioned by Scottish Enterprise.)

Providing over 400km of trails the 7stanes can cater for families looking to cycle off road, or mountain bikers who wish to have the opportunity to test their skills, through to the more extreme trails that provide an adrenaline rush for those who dare!

The 7stanes caters for all abilities from beginners to experts. And we also have regular disabled riders at several of the stanes, and mobility buggy’s going at top speed can be spotted on some of the trails! Mountain biking can be a recreational sport suitable for all or a highly competitive sport calling for very high levels of skill and fitness and is accessible all year long.

Cycling offers numerous benefits. It gives the body a fast and energetic workout. Mountain bikers are friendly and enjoy the social experiences of meeting up with fellow riders and can be seen enjoying refreshments and having blether (Scot’s for talking) at many of the onsite cafes.
