7th/8th Grade Choir E-Learning 2020 Hi everyone! I know we are all excited about social distancing and e-learning, so I am just going to come right out and say that the work we do on these days off is equally as important as when we are in school. THE POPS CONCERT IS COMING!!!! :) Feel free to keep an open line of communication with me via email ([email protected]). If you are frustrated about your time off, email me. If you have any concerns about what I’m asking you to do, email me. If you found a cute video of a dog or read an amazing book, email me! Day 1 (The first day off -- did you get to sleep in?) You will be completing the Written Warm-Up and Group Rhythm Practice 1 in your packet. You can do so on a sheet of notebook paper. Please write in the counting. Remember, when the time signature changes, so does the amount of beats per measure. You must also complete the Choir Basics Quiz 1 found in your packet. BONUS POINTS: If you video or audio record yourself clapping one or more of the rhythms, you will receive extra credit on your weakest written warm-up when we get back! In order for this to count, you must submit this via Google Classroom. I will provide the appropriate place to turn it in and also the instructions on how to upload things. Day 2 You will be sight-reading today! Woohoo! I have included the starting pitch today on Google Classroom. Remember to look at your hints. What note are we starting on? Make sure to sing yourself in by singing up/down to the note using your hand signs. Make sure you keep a steady beat while performing the sight-singing. You must video or audio record yourself singing the sight-reading example. If you do not have access to technology, you will simply do this when we get back in school. This will count as an assessment score. In order for this to count, you must submit this via Google Classroom. I will provide the appropriate place to turn it in and also the instructions on how to upload things. You must also complete the Choir Basics Quiz 2 found in your packet.

Pulsing!

Make sure that you PULSE today on all of the half notes and on the tied note at the end. Your Kodaly Hand signs help you find the PITCH, and the pulsing helps you keep the RHYTHM.

Also...Be careful with the first pitch! Make sure you sing yourself in on the correct pitch!

Lastly, remember to always look at the last pitch of the song too. It is very important to know whereyou are supposed to end up in case you make a mistake along the way!

Teachers: To establish tonality, it is a good idea to have a short series of "Follow the Hand".

Day 3 (At this point, Mrs. Wendling is definitely missing you guys and probably posted something on Google Classroom...check it out!)  Hopefully by this point you are ready to start Pops music! Hopefully by this point, Mrs. Wendling has recorded your parts for ONE song and put them on Google Classroom. If you have the technology at home, I ask that you take time to sit and practice your part for 15 minutes. This should be with/without accompaniment. You must record yourself via audio/video for the last 2 minutes of your practice session. In order for this to count, you must submit this via Google Classroom. I will provide the appropriate place to turn it in and also the instructions on how to upload things.

You must also complete the Dynamics Quiz found in your packet.

BONUS POINTS: If you add something really fun to the video recording (if you choose this route). This could be fun filters, dramatic pauses, etc.

Day 4 Make a list of your top 15 favorite songs of all time. Write 2 sentences about why each song made the list. Why was this song inspirational? Do you listen to it with friends or family? Where did you first hear this song? Does this song have meaning to something that has happened/is happening in your life? You must include the artist as well. If the song is part of a cultural tradition, please write that as well. You may submit via Google Classroom in a Google doc or written.

Also, check Google Classroom. If Mrs. Wendling posted a new song, start rehearsing your part on that one. If not, rehearse the old one.

Day 5 (How did we survive 5 days of E-Learning!?!?!) YOU’RE THE COMPOSER!!!

Wowee, the day has come where you get to compose your own sight-reading example! Please use the page in your packet that is already labeled. Things that must exist:

1) You must come up with a time signature. 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 are your choices. If you choose 2/4, you must add extra barlines to make it work.

2) You must choose a note other than Do to start with. Just like we have practiced, put that note in its own measure at the beginning with enough quarter rests (Z) to finish that measure. Label your “pitch” of choice.

3) You must fill the rest of the measures with quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes, or tied notes.

Page 10: 7th/8th Grade Choir E-Learning 2020...7th/8th Grade Choir E-Learning 2020 Hi everyone! I know we are all excited about social distancing and e-learning, so I am just going to come

4) You must be able to perform the example yourself. You may not just have an entire example full of the same pitch, or the same note. Make it interesting!

5) You must record yourself (video recording this time) performing the example. If you do not have technology at home, please make sure you practice enough to be able to record it when we get back.

6) I should see the entire process in your video. Singing your starting pitch, singing up or down to the first pitch in the example, counting yourself in using “numbers, ready go” in the same way we would in class.

*** If it is a train wreck, please revisit your example and make some changes to make it work for you. Do not record yourself unless you are solid. The final product should look similar to the one that you are doing on Day 2. I do not expect Picassos of music notes/rests! Just do your best and make sure I can read what is there!  You will be submitting the paper version of this to me for points as well.
