The Long Walk Home

Water, Stone, Heart - by

Will North

It is said that anyone who

sleeps alone on the slopes

of Cadair Idris will awaken

either a poet or a madman.

Will North's first novel, the Long Walk

Home, is set at the base of Cadair Idris,

an ark and beautiful mountain in Wales, a

mountain whose summit is often

wreathed in cloud. American Alec Hud-

son has walked from London's Heathrow

Airport to this place intending to fulfil his

ex-wife's request that he scatter her ashes

on the summit of the mountain. Bad

weather forces him to seek refuge in the

farmhouse b&b of Fiona Edwards, and so

their story begins. It's a romance about

second chances; it also connects the un-

predictability of nature and life as it de-

tails Alec's struggles with Cadair Idris as

he strives to honor the promise made to

his ex-wife.

This story, also a romance, is

set in a small village on the

rugged coast of Cornwall.

Nicola Rhys-Jones is hiding

from an abusive husband,

and Andrew Stratton is an American pro-

fessor who has signed up for a course in

the ancient art of stone wall building after

being abandoned by his wife. As in the

first book, nature becomes a very real

character in their story, as a storm builds,

a fictional storm based on a devastating

flash flood that demolished the village of

Bocastle in 2004.

In both of the Will North books, the ro-

mance is only part of the beautifully-

written story. In the first case, it is woven

around mountain climbing and legend; in

the second, both the reader and Andrew

learn about building classic stone walls; in

both cases, nature takes on a life of its

own as an integral element of the plot. Not

your typical romances.

IN HOUSE GAME

“DECORATE THE CHRISTMAS TREE”

Throughout

the months of

November &

December

the library is

running an

Intro to

Magformers program for

children ages 3+.

The program will kick off

on Thursday, October 11th,

2018 from 6:00pm—

7:00pm and will run eve-

ry Thursday until Decem-

ber 6th, 2018.

What are Magfomers?

Magformers are

educational construction

toys that allow them to

build their own magnetic

3D structures. They’re

colorful , sturdy, plastic

shapes of all sizes that

you build with. The basic

principle is allowing their

creativity to shine

through and of course,

the amount

of fun you

have while

playing is

unlimited.

The library

will also have these kits,

that are used for the pro-

gram, available to the

schools and community to

borrow from the library

with a $20.00 damage

deposit needed.

INTRO TO MAGFORMERS IN STARTING UP!

Join us at the library, from

Nov 13 - Jan 5, 2019 to

help us decorate our

Christmas Tree!

The tree is made out of felt

for our younger patrons

little fingers and is bound

to keep your little one

entertained while you look

at books or simply just

want to hang out and use

our Wi-Fi or computers!

We hope you plan to come

spend some time at the

library during your

Christmas holidays!

We have an awesome list

of in house library games

planned for 2019.

We typically have an in-

house game set up in the

library every second

month throughout the

year.

In January, there will be a

Dr. Seuss Maze set up for

the kids.

JANUARY IN HOUSE GAME - DR. SEUSS MAZE

Join us in January, as we

help our friend, The Cat

in the Hat, find his hat!

In the library, you will

find a large maze posted

up on the side of one of

the library book shelves.

Along the size of the

maze they’ll be a dry

erase marker! Feel free to

give it a try!

I’m sure the Cat in the

Hat will be very grateful

if you find his hat for him!

When he had his family and

friends over for Christmas

he misplaced it. We would

hate for him to not have his

favourite hat to kick off the

new year!

Bring a friend! The library

staff hopes to see you really

soon.
