Advisor: Amy AlbergPurpose: The activity is

competitive in 13 differentcategories. Outside of com-petition, students developconfidence in their ability tospeak in a meaningful wayabout either a text they inter-pret, or a speech they create.All require analytical andperformance skills.

Officers and their grades:We have two captains whoare both seniors: SofiaKaunonen and RebeccaSimon.

Successes/highlights dur-ing the season: We have hadmany successes and high-lights this year. Some in-clude taking home team tro-phies, several first places at

the conference meet, six stu-dents advancing to sectionswith four placing, and everystudent making improve-ments and having great days.

Comments: Public speak-ing is a lifelong skill, and thestudents who participate in itare phenomenal in their abil-ity to be friends with thecompetition.

Purpose: (This is from theteam’s mission statement)This is a group for any 9th to12th grader who is interestedin taking a leadership role inglobal service learning. Itsmission is to empower stu-dents to enact change thatimproves the lives of others.

The collective group goalsof this organization are:

• To provide opportunitiesfor students to advocate forpeople in need

• To improve economicand social conditions global-ly

All projects are student-led. The group meets when-ever someone has a project topresent, and we all work to-

gether to carry it out. We alsowork with grades K-8 on cer-tain district-wide projects.By meeting certain require-ments, students can letter inW.E. Team.

filled motivational event toempower students to enactchange.

What makes this activityspecial? Over the last coupleof year’s, we've started W.E.Teams at each of the build-ings in other communities.We collaborate on some pro-jects, but each building alsohas their own individual pro-jects as well.

Any upcoming events?W.E. Shoe Away Hunger is ashoe drive that helps fightlocal hunger. It's going to runfrom May 1 to 11 at the highschool and in Lonsdale. TheMonty K-8 is also participat-ing.

Number of members: Wehave about 50 members atthe high school. There is noofficial roster because thereis no "registration."

Comments: This group hasworked really hard this yearto achieve and perform theway that they have. I am ex-tremely proud of their workthis year.

What makes it Special:Choir is an activity that al-lows the students to have apersonal musical experience.This group is also a commu-nity that the students have assoon as they join the group.
