8 angles on sustainable building
Málaga, 13 September, 2018 Open Conference on Project Results
Jämtland Region, Sweden

The Octagonal House - Fannbyn Jämtland
3
From idea to implementation
Why?
Need for more sustainable solutions
Is it possible?
What products and services will be used?
Idea and developer: Sven Wadman
The project uses others’ knowledge and input during planning and development
4
Wood as building material
900 years – Faroe Islands
5
Solutions in the Octagonal House
An interior greenhouse for air purification
Smart ventilation with Termite inspired intake air.
Heat pump using exhaust air
Outer walls – IsoTimber 300mm wood modules with air channels
Organowood protection against rottening and fire
Cellulose fiber insulation for floor, roof and walls.
Energy production – solar electricity and heat from greenhouse and a pellets chimney
Closed cycle sewage system – waste back to plants
Patented solution for wind deviation
Minimal cold bridges
Egg tempera paint
Piece-of-cake construction!
6
Energy SystemExhaust air from house feeded to greenhouse.
Plants purify air.
Air sent to heat exchanger.
Energy use reduced - less cold air needs to be warmed up in the winter, or warm air cooled down in the summer.
7
Climate smart outer walls from IsoTimber
Wood and air in the walls
IsoTimber 300, U = 0,20 W/(m2 K)
IsoTimber wallsystem is made of wood and thousands of air channels.
IsoTimber is a material easily used for house renovation and expansion projects.

A cellulose loose fibre insulation produced in Sweden
Cellulose fibre insulation can return to the natural cycle since it is made of renewable material. Good material to add additional insulation in the future.

Paint in bags have a lower environmental impact thatn other paints like water-based latex paint.
Egg tempera paint ”Av jord”

Reuse of old materialWood from the old timber house used for:
-Greenhouse frame
-Deck
The Octagonal house is built for EASY reuse in the future.
- Walls
- Insulation
- Wood
- Roof
