Disability Network promotes economic self-sufficiency, equal access and participation so people with disabilities can live full & exciting lives.
In 2020, Michigan’s Centers for Independent Living . . .
▶ Served 21,258 people with disabilities.
▶ Educated 39,602 people about disability and the value of full-participation in society.
▶ Transitioned 1,197 people out of nursing facilities in
partnership with other providers.
▶ 7,770 independent living goals set.
▶ Most commonly identified barriers to reaching independence are access to
transportation employment housing assistive technology
▶ Chronic unemployment & dependence on public assistance cost the government approximately $1million per person from the ages of 18–60/yrs.
▶ For every GF/GP dollar invested in CILs in 2019, we returned $7. This translates into total taxpayer savings of $43 million.
