    6.8.5 Repair

    CAUTION

    Danger of bodily injury!

Pedal actions can cause serious injuries if persons are near the vehicle. Ensure that pedal action is prevented by means of the following measures: Switch the gearbox to "neutral" and actuate the hand brake. Use brake wedges to secure the vehicle against rolling away. Attach a clearly marked note on the steering wheel saying that work is being

performed on the vehicle and that the pedal must not be applied.

Before you begin with the repair, please read the safety instructions, see chapter 2

"Safety instructions", page 9 above and make sure that you follow these instruc-tions. Before you perform any further activities on this system you must query the current fault status again after you have eliminated the fault or have cleared the diagnostic memory. This is the only way to ensure that the fault has been eliminated.

    6.9 Flight Data Recorder (FDR)

The Flight Data Recorder is an optional kit 446 302 078 0 consisting of the Smart Card 446 302 090 0 and the Compact Flash Card 446 302 060 0. This kit can be used to capture and record data from the electronic control units during autodiagnostics, also during a test drive. The data is recorded continuously and over the entire period of communication with the vehicle. The Flight Data Recorder is an additional function that was integrated into the Smart Module (ECUreader/ECUdecoder). No further hardware is required.

  • XD 6Smart Module (SM) in connection with the Toughbook

    65

To activate the Flight Data Recorder, the Smart Module must be connected to a PC. Once the Flight Data Recorder has been activated, the Smart Module can be dis-connected from the PC. The Smart Module then saves the fault developments and the actual value selected at the time of activation to the Compact Flash Card. After recording, the Flight Analyzer can be used to load the record files from the Compact Flash Card to the Toughbook for a graphical analysis of the stored curve traces.

    6.9.1 Preparations

Insert Compact Flash Card Before you switch on the Smart Module and before you perform the diagnostics,

insert the Compact Flash (CF) Card 446 302 060 0 into the read-in unit. In the course of a normal diagnostics, the control device data is saved by the Flight Data Recorder.
