on deck. There are 4 dedicated Vegetable oil tanks located forward of No 1 hold.The vessel has a bulbous bow and transom stern. The two 60mt cranes are integral of the hull structure and both are mounted on the portside.The vessel was launched as “Forum Samoa II” and changed names to:“Opal Harmony” in June 2010“Southern Moana” in Feb 2014CONSTRUCTIONThe vessel was built by Chengi Xi shipyard in China.The keel was laid on 20th September 2000 and she was delivered in July 2001.Construction is of welded ship building high tensile steel plate on transverse and longitudinal frames.   There are six full watertightbulkheads with 2 continuous decks and double bottom continuous from forepeak to afterpeak bulkheads.The rudder is a semi balanced type. LAYOUTThe vessel has six accommodation decks, with the engine room aft.Number 2 hold is the larger of the two holds. There are 4 vegetable/cocunut oil tanks forward under the raised foredeck. Forward again isthe bow thruster rooms, chain lockers and storage.THE BRIDGE DECK has the helm and observation area forward with access P & S to each wing deck.  The navigation and communicationarea is aft.  Aft on the port side is a toilet and the battery room. The stairwell is aft on the port side. Aft to starboard is a small office.THE CAPTAINS DECK has access up and down via the stairwell and access to the aft deck aft to starboard. The Captain’s cabin, office andday room are to starboard with the Chief engineer’s Office cabin and day room is to port.There is an officers / engineers office mid on the port side. Each of these cabins has their own separate toilet and shower.DECK C, has access up and down via the stair well and access to the aft deck aft to starboard. This deck has a cabin aft to port for the pilotwith two officer cabins forward to port. To starboard is an owners’ cabin together with the chief officer’s cabin and day room. All cabins havetheir own separate toilet and shower.DECK B, has access up and down via the stair well and access to the aft deck to starboard. This deck has the Dispensary aft to port with

the 2nd Engineers cabin and day room to port. To starboard are the Electricians cabin and two x two berth crew cabins. Each cabin has itsown toilet and shower. There are store rooms port and starboard.DECK A, has access up and down via the stair well and access to the aft deck to starboard. There are separate cabins for the Bosun, Cookand Cargo Superintendent and two x two berth Cabins and one, six berth cabin aft to starboard, all with their own toilet and shower. Theemergency generator room is aft to port.THE POOP DECK has access up and down via the stair well and access to the aft deck to starboard. The galley and pantry is central withthe crew mess to port and the officer’s mess to starboard. Aft to starboard is a training room.THE MAIN DECK has access up to the poop deck and access forward, port and starboard to the main deck. There is a four berth cabinforward to port with changing rooms aft to port. There are provision rooms aft across the stern with laundry, drying room and linen lockersaft to starboard. The Air conditioning room and CO2 room are also located on this deck. There is access from this deck to the engine roomThe engine room is aft under the main deck and is on two levels.Forward under the forecastle is the paint store, hydraulic pump room and lashing store along with the bow thruster compartment andcontrol room. BRIDGEThe bridge is full width with access to the wing deck each side. Amanual back up provided at the relay cabinet in the engine room. STEERING GEARThe rudder room is directly above the rudder post.The steering gear is made by Scan Steering and is a two hydraulic ram system. The hydraulics are electrically operated. There are twoidentical electro hydraulic pumps and power units. One unit is a standby.A manual override system is also provided.This area also has a direct telegraph link to the bridge.ELECTRICALPRIMARY POWER SYSTEMPrimary power is provided via the shaft generator and the 2 main generator plants. All the primary electrical loads appear to be 440 & 220volts AC 60 Hz.The main electrical control panels are located in the engine control room.  In here is located the Main electrical switchboard with overloadcontrol, isolating switches, emergency controls and all the ships 24 hour monitoring system.AC charging is provided for all batteries.LIFESAVING EQUIPMENTOne totally enclosed lifeboat is set on a free fall ramp on the stern starboard side. A rigid hull open rescue boat is set up on a swing craneon “A” deck, aft port side. There are four inflatable life rafts carried, 2 x 20 man units each side, all with hydrostatic releases.All other safety equipment as per the class requirements is provided. DECK GEAROn the foredeck are twin, electro hydraulic windlasses.  Each has a chain gypsy, twin captive reel drums and a capstan.The vessel has 3 x Stockless anchors, two set up in hawsers in the bow and one to be set up on the stern. Each anchor weighs 4320 kgsand has a chain cable length of 550m.Appropriate fairleads, panama chocks, guide rollers and bollards are located around the deck for line handling.On the aft Poop deck are two electro hydraulic windlasses. The port winch has two endless line drums and a capstan. The starboardwinch larger has two endless drum winches and a capstan for the stern anchor.Appropriate fairleads, panama chocks, guide rollers and bollards are located around the deck for line handling.There is a winch fitted on the main deck just forward of the accommodation block with twin captive line drums and capstan.There are two small free standing cranes on the poop deck, one to starboard for the rescue boat and the other for loading provisions.There are two small free standing cranes aft on the main deck and two larger free standing cranes forward on the forecastle upper deck. CARGO GEAR EQUIPMENTThe vessel has 2 electro /hydraulic cranes which are suitable for motor Grab operation.Both crane capacities are 60 t @ 32 m and 40 t @ 22 m on the hook and 48 t @ 32 m and 32 t @ 22 m for grab, log or palletized cargo.The cranes are designed so as to be able to remove and replace the tweendeck panels from/to the holds to the main deck. When not inuse, the tweendeck can be stowed forward of the superstructure (bay31).
