Elementary Attendance1. Currently exploring the capability of Canvas to take attendance2. If not available through Canvas, attendance will be taken in homeroom each

morning by teachers posting a “question of the day”3. Parents/guardians must still report a student absent by sending an email to

the teacher, building secretary, or by using the ‘Safe Arrival’ in the School Messenger app

4. Students are highly encouraged to follow the daily schedule but flexibility of family routines will be taken under consideration

5. All synchronous lessons will be recorded for students to review if they can not attend the live lesson

6. Parents are encouraged to keep in contact with their teacher about missed work or extenuating circumstances

Secondary Model for Online Learning

Objective: To provide a robust and engaging online learning experience for all secondary students that meets the high expectations of the North Penn school community.

Two Options:

● Follow a normal schedule with synchronous learning and live instruction (All synchronous lessons will be recorded for students to review if they can not attend the live lesson)

● 100 percent asynchronous learning through North Penn Virtual Academy (NPVA)

Page 12: 8/4/20 North Penn School District Informational Items · Elementary Model for Online Learning Objective: To provide an effective and rigorous online learning platform at the elementary

Goals:

1. Provide students with access to the courses and curricula that they would see in the traditional setting

2. Have synchronous learning in each class on each day

3. Be creative and innovative in our thinking to develop opportunities for students to engage in school beyond academics.

Page 13: 8/4/20 North Penn School District Informational Items · Elementary Model for Online Learning Objective: To provide an effective and rigorous online learning platform at the elementary

Option 1: Synchronous learning :

SYNCHRONOUS online learning, unlike the structure in March, is presented in live sessions with teachers and students participating, virtually. Some important notes:

● Students will be assumed to be in this option unless we hear otherwise● There will be a bell schedule for synchronous components● Students will be expected to sign in at specific times and teachers will take

attendance● Genuine assessment of content mastery will take place

○ Traditional grading structures will return

Page 14: 8/4/20 North Penn School District Informational Items · Elementary Model for Online Learning Objective: To provide an effective and rigorous online learning platform at the elementary

Option 2: Asynchronous Learning in NPVA

● NPVA structure existed prior to March● Edgenuity Content aligned to NPSD curricula● North Penn Teachers● Office hours and availability for student support● Credit towards NP diploma and can still participate in clubs and activities● Recommending semester commitment● If you are interested in this model:

○ Email Mr. Galante ([email protected])○ Copy your home school principal

Page 15: 8/4/20 North Penn School District Informational Items · Elementary Model for Online Learning Objective: To provide an effective and rigorous online learning platform at the elementary

Default is Synchronous Instruction

IMPORTANT NOTE:

1. Regardless of your selection from the survey, we are scheduling students in the synchronous option unless you contact Mr. Galante.

2. The schedules to follow are simply concepts of what the bell schedule MAY look like. Concrete detail will be provided soon.
