RAUPEX Pipe and the EVERLOC Fitting System

    The REHAU Advantage

Lots of companies make PEX pipe

these days. But at REHAU, we'vetaken PEX technology further than

    anyone else. We've tested, refined

and perfected our pipe for over 30

years to give you a superior system.

In fact, we pioneered PEXso when

    you're dealing with REHAU, you'll

know you are dealing with the tried-

    and-true industry leader.

RAUPEX is REHAU's trade name for

    its specially formulated cross-linked

    polyethylene (PEXa) pipe manufac-

tured using the highly controlled Engel

(peroxide) method. This technologyproduces a permanent, three-dimen-

    sional structure that greatly enhances

    temperature capability and long-term

    strength.

RAUPEX is resistant to kinking and

cracking, and is much stronger and

more flexible than pipe that has

    not undergone the same chemical

    metamorphosis, making it an ideal

    construction product. RAUPEX is also

available with an oxygen diffusion bar-

    rier, designated as RAUPEX B.

RAUPEX and RAUPEX B are produced

    in ISO 9001 certified manufacturing

    facilities (International Standards Orga-

    nization). The following are applicable

    Quality Assurance Standards

The highest standard that RAUPEX is

subjected to is REHAU's own in-house

testing and quality assurance, by which

we continuously test and measure the

    quality of our pipe.

    Resistance to Aging

    REHAU counteracts aging influences

    with special heat-stabilizing agents that

    are added during the manufacturing

    process.

    Gas and Water Permeability

    RAUPEX B features a co-extruded

barrier of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVAL)

that virtually eliminates the diffusion ofoxygen through the pipe wall (less than

    0.025 mg/l day).

    Thermal Properties

    Because of the strong cross-linking

bonds in RAUPEX, it does not melt

in the same way as other polymers.

Nor does it get brittle at any possible

installation temperature. In fact, the full

working range of RAUPEX is -184F to

    248F (-120C to 120C).

    Mechanical Properties

RAUPEX is tough and flexible, evenwith repeated bending, and can with-

stand typical job site abuse. It's more

    flexible than pipe cross-linked electroni-

cally or by other cross-linking methods.

    Chemical Resistance

    RAUPEX resists conventional sol-

    vents, detergents, antifreeze agents

and corrosion inhibitors. Even at high

    temperatures, RAUPEX resists hydrous

solutions of salts, acids and alkali. A

    chemical resistance chart is available.

    Freeze Resistance

RAUPEX pipe will expand when frozen,

rather than cracking or splitting. This

may protect a plumbing system in an

    unheated space

    EVERLOC Fitting System

    REHAU's proprietary EVERLOC fitting

system is the perfect way to ensurea permanent connection that will not

    require retightening. Our compression-

    sleeve technique employs the memory

effect inherent in RAUPEX. The pipe is

cold-expanded then the brass fitting or

valve is inserted into the pipe. Because

of the pipe's "memory," it will then

shrink securely onto the fitting within

    seconds. The compression sleeve is

    then compressed over the pipe.

Use the EVERLOC fitting system with

confidence to bury it in a thermal mass

or encapsulate it behind walls (check

    compliance with local codes).

RAUPLEX pipe used in conjuction with

EVERLOC fittings is approved for use

in domestic and commercial hot water

    recirculation systems.

    Permanent connection.

The greatest inside diameter of any

    PEX fitting provides maximum flow.

The EVERLOC fitting will not leak

    when installed properly.

    Radiant Floor Heating (RFH)

RFH directly affects the mean radiant

temperature (MRT) of a room by heat-

ing the exposed surfaces. The floor

is directly heated and the walls and

ceiling are heated by radiant energy

    (transfer) from the floor. Therefore,

occupants benefit not only from the

    increase in ambient room temperature

created by RFH systems but also from

    the increase in the MRT.

RAUPEX stands up to strenuous use

making it well suited for hydronic heat-

ing systems. When used in conjunc-

    tion with manually or thermostatically

    controlled supply- and return-flow

valves that distribute water through thepipe and back to a boiler, the system

transforms the entire floor into a warm-

    water, low temperature radiator.

    Applications

Our system can be used in a wide

    variety of building types including

    residences, schools, auditoriums,

    churches, retirement homes, super-

    markets, hospitals, barns, warehouses

    and factories.

    Heat Sources

The REHAU radiant floor heating sys-

tem can be the primary heat source for

the room or it can serve in combination

    with other auxiliary heating systems

    offering greater flexibility in selecting

    heat output.

Thin slab over suspended wood floor Slab-on-Grade installation Joist space method

Two conditions must be kept in mind

for any heat source you choose to

use in conjunction with REHAU RFH

    system:

The heat source must be properly

sized to supply the heat required,

including auxiliary requirementssuch as domestic hot water. Typical

heat sources include low and high

    temperature boilers, designated hot

water tanks, heat pumps, solar and,

    in certain regions, geothermal.

    The maximum flow temperature in

the floor heating circuit is regulated

    by modern control systems to

    assure optimum comfort, to avoid

damage to the pipe or floor, and to

    prevent excessive floor tempera-

    tures.

    Snow and Ice Melt (SIM)

    REHAU SIM systems are hydronic

    systems designed to augment the

removal of snow and ice by circulating

a heat transfer fluid (usually antifreeze

    and water) through RAUPEX pipe.

    With proper design and installation,

our SIM systems will provide long-term

    performance and reliability in maintain-

ing snow and ice free areas.

Beyond the safety benefits, SIM sys-

    tems can reduce indoor maintenance

costs (no salt or water tracked inside),

eliminate the costs of snow removal,

    reduce liability exposure and offer

    unmatched convenience.

The economics of installation and op-

eration of a hydronic SIM system can

often be better than that of traditional

    snow and ice removal methods.

    Applications include:

    Driveways

    Hospital entrances

    Parking garage ramps

    Wheelchair ramps

    Parking lots

    Sidewalks and steps

    Helicopter landing pads

    Resort community roadways

    Car washes

    Hot tub/pool surrounds

    Runways

Any surface, public or private, resi-

dential or commercial, that you want

free of snow and ice buildup

Installation underneath pavers Concrete overpour installation

    Flexible Options

SIM systems can be installed in any

    number of different substrates including

    concrete, sandbeds and even under

asphalt. A typical SIM control system

    works with conventional heating equip-

ment. Automatic sensors not only turn

the system on when snow starts andturn it off when surfaces are dry, but

also adjust the fluid temperature to

    adapt to changing conditions.

    Turf Conditioning

To extend the growing season of

    natural grass surfaces, RAUPEX pipe

is installed within the soil layer of the

turf. Fluid is circulated at varying tem-peratures through specially engineered

headers, gently warming the roots to

provide an optimal root zone tem-

perature. This prevents the grass from

going into dormancy, which causes im-

brittlement and leaves it susceptible to

damage from foot traffic. Heat energy

is retained throughout the soil layer,

which also promotes a deeper root

    structure and healthier plants. When

turf conditioning is used in combination

with tarping the field during extreme

weather conditions, we can design an

effective system for any type of turf and

    for virtually any climate.

    How It Works

The field is divided into multiple zones

and is typically monitored by digital

    controls that monitor outdoor condi-

tions and soil temperatures, and vary

the supply fluid temperature to deliver

an accurate and optimal root zone

    temperature. The system is capable

of being monitored on or off site, and

controls boiler and pump operation as

    well as failure alarms.

    Benefits

    Gently warms plants to prevent

    dormancy and promotes healthy

    growth throughout the cold winter

    months.

    Reduces costly overseeding and

    re-sodding of turf.

Prevents frozen turf, melts snow and

ice on the field and provides cost

savings by not having to employ

traditional methods of snow and ice

    removal.

    Soft, healthy turf reduces the

    chance of player injury

Youll know you have chosen the

best in product quality as well as

    value-added service with REHAU an

    experienced leader in hydronic turf

    conditioning with multiple installations

    Plumbing with RAUPEX

RAUPEX is an excellent pipe for hot

    and cold water distribution systems

    with distinct advantages over both

metal pipes and polymer pipes pro-

duced by other methods. It's versatile,

durable and more resistant to chemical

damage than copper. In fact, we've

proven in over two decades of fieldtesting that our PEX system, unlike

CPVC or copper, will deliver all of these

    advantagesthe first time and every

    time.

    RAUPEX:

Promotes a higher level of water

    purity and superior flow.

Does not pit or stress corrode.

Is resistant to scaling and deposit

buildup when used with both hard

    and softened water.

    Minimizes the noise transmitted

through pipes. Is capable of withstanding tem-

    peratures and pressures (including

    surge pressures) commonly found in

    domestic plumbing systems.

Is certified by NSF and CSA to be

free of toxins and heavy metals and

    is safe for drinking water.

    Minimizes heat transmission losses

through the pipe wall, compared to

    metal pipes.

    Resists the expansion of freezing.

    EVERLOC in Plumbing Applications

    In domestic water plumbing systems,

drinking water will come in contact with

    fittings. For this reason, EVERLOC

fittings are made of low-lead brass that

    is also dezincification-resistant. Elbows

and tees are forged for high strength

    while straight fittings are machined

    from solid stock.

All fittings in a plumbing system are

subject to stress from mechanical load-

    ing. Through quality engineering and

    manufacturing, EVERLOC fittings are

designed to resist the effects of stress

    cracking.

All EVERLOC fittings and valves are

certified to ASTM F 877 and

    CSA B 137.5

    INSULPEX is pre-insulated RAUPEX

pipe with a solid, not layered, jacket of

    polyurethane (CFC-free) foam insula-

tion. This continuous, seamless layer of

    insulation provides high resistance to

heat loss with the advantages of flex-

    ible RAUPEX pipe.

DUO pipes combine both supply and

return pipes in one jacket for efficient

and compact installation, while singlepipes are used in large diameters.

    INSULPEX:

Has a long life expectancy at typical

    operating temperatures and pres-

    sures.

Does not corrode and is resistant to

    aggressive soil and water.

Is 5-6 times lighter than copper and

    much lighter than steel.

Comes in convenient coil of various

    lengths to reduce installation time

    and minimize connections.

    INSULPEX connections are made using

    REHAUs proprietary EVERLOC fitting

    system. EVERLOC fittings are virtu-

    ally worry-free, assemble quickly and

easily and provide excellent flow. The

    flexibility and physical characteristics

of INSULPEX give it the same distinc-

tive advantages over metal pipes that

    RAUPEX has.

    INSULPEX is ideal for:

    Snow and Ice Melt Applications

    District Heating

    Hydronic Piping
