Dear Friendsof the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bu alo,

We are proud to present you with our 2016–17 Annual Report. This past year was a very exciting and busy time for everyone. As you will see in this report, it was also a year in which we made great strides in expanding and improving our programs, and most importantly, reaching more children in Bu alo, especially those who need us most.

Due to the generous support of our donors, this past year witnessed many exciting accomplishments, including:

1. Opening a new Clubhouse at South Bu alo Charter School at 154 South Ogden Street.2. An extremely fun and inspirational evening at our signature fundraising gala, “Inspiring

Great Futures Concert & Dinner”, raising over $120,000 after expenses for our academic enrichment programs.

3. A new program, “Play Ball”, which encourages Club members to improve their overall fi tness and health while engaging in activities and games that build on the fundamentals of baseball. (Thank you to our program sponsor, New Era Cap.)

4. The implementation of a new summer reading program, “The Jayne Hubbell Literacy Program,” which focuses on eliminating summer learning loss by getting children and parents excited about reading. (Thank you to our program sponsor, Phil Hubbell and family.)

5. The expansion of our Summer Camp, serving over 600 kids every day. (Thank you Say Yes to Education Bu alo, First Niagara Foundation, and the Rich Family.)

We are so very proud of our accomplishments this past year and look forward to even bigger ones in 2017-18! We realize that there is still much more work thatneeds to be done. Our goal is to provide a positive place for kids to learn and grow, especially those who need us most. Through your continued support, we can achieve that goal!

To our donors from this past year who are listed on the following pages, please accept our most heartfelt appreciation for creating opportunities, fulfi lling dreams and changing lives. Thank you for making a di erence. Thank you for making the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bu alo the safe place where great futures start!

Provide a safe and stable experience that assures success is within reach of all our members—that they graduate from high school with plans for their future and that they are living a healthy lifestyle.

Inspiring Great Futures Concert & Dinner 2017Children from three Clubhouses played with musicians from the Bu alo Philharmonic Orchestra. We realized over $123,000 from generous donors and sponsors. This year’s event will be held April 12, 2018!

Butler-Mitchell Clubhouse Renovations Renovations were completed this year, expanding the Club’s capacity from 80 to 120 members per day.

STEAM CompetitionOur members love STEAM! This year’s STEAM Competition was held at Rich Products. Members worked with STEAM mentors from local companies and local colleges to develop their ideas and market their inventions to the judges. Beecher Clubhouse took home fi rst prize with their super-strong pressure tape that would make all other types of adhesive tapes obsolete.

Year In Review:

Play Ball!Sponsored by New Era Cap Co., this fun fi tness program allows youth to learn about the fundamental skills of baseball and softball, all while building positive relationships through teamwork.

Inter-Club Basketball League Sponsored by the Masten Club Alumni Association, it’s a blast for members and their families! The winner of the League Championship this year was the team from our Masten Club.

The Jayne Hubbell Literacy ProgramThis summer, the Jayne Hubbell Literacy Program, sponsored by the Hubbell Family, encouraged children of all ages, and their parents, to get excited about reading. Approximately 300 children participated in reading a variety of age-appropriate books as well as taking trips to Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center to read to the horses. This year’s program was also supported by the Mayor’s Summer Youth Program and Say Yes to Education.
