Sidewalk art campaign/competition – PR campaign, no paid media askHRgreen social media branding campaign - ongoing

FY20 media plan is under development as HRPDC staff works with RCS on FY20 plans. HRPDC staff will follow up with Norfolk to identify specs and product information for vinyl decals to use in new outreach campaign similar to Write as Rain.

HRPDC staff is putting together a calendar of events and promotional opportunities for all askHRgreen committees throughout the year to help with outreach and social media promotional opportunities. Hampton school would like to have Write as Rain stencils applied again in FY20.

ACTION: HRPDC staff will continue to work on FY20 media plan.

4. Regional Priorities for Stormwater Public Outreach The Committee continued discussing regional opportunities to satisfy Phase I and II outreach priorities. The Committee was reminded to think in terms of comprehensive outreach as more resources are developed

Car washing o Car wash rack card has been finalized and sent to printer. o “Clean Car, Clean Bay, Have a Great Day” signage for commercial car

washes. Committee members should get a list of local car washes to target

as BSB partners. Partnership could also include promotional events and promoting commercial car wash fundraisers

The Committee discussed rack card for nuisance geese o Newport News has gathered info for geese rack card o USDA group would be reference for more in depth management

strategies HRPDC staff can share the presentation from wildlife management.

o HRPDC will get quote for RCS design of rack card o No need for cleaning company rack card at this time.

Add restaurants to list of outreach priorities to capture the work being done by the HR FOG program.

Wash water/cleaning company response did not seem to be needed but a one pager to print on demand for locality response to specific incidents could be helpful.

ACTION: Committee members should compile a list of car washes to target for BSB outreach and partnership. HRPDC staff will draft nuisance geese rack card.

5. Bay Star Homes & Business Program HRPDC staff is running low on both BSH and BSB rack cards. The Committee would like to order 5,000 on each rack card to stock up for fall and spring events.

Fall newsletter – Committee members were asked to begin thinking of content for a fall newsletter. Coast Live Promotion – askHRgreen partnered with Anderson's Garden Center on a native plant segment for Coast Live. Anderson's provided the plants and Michelle and Katie provided the commentary. Three rose mallow plants were given away through Facebook. HRPDC staff will try to continue partnership with Anderson's for future plant giveaways (potentially a tree giveaway in the fall for National Planting Day). ACTION: HRPDC staff will order BSH and BSB rack cards.

6. Grants CBRF grant summary submitted for FY19. Pet waste stations were ordered leaving about $1,600 left to put towards rain barrel workshops. Other localities were encouraged to host workshops. The following localities volunteered to host:

Hampton (spring) Suffolk (spring) Newport News (fall - tentative) Chesapeake (fall). Fall -- October/November

ACTION: HRPDC staff will work with localities to schedule rain barrel workshops for FY20.

7. Printing & Promotional Items The Committee continued to discuss promotional items to support a fall lawn care and leaf disposal campaign:

Reusable plant markers Black eyed Susan seed packets Pet waste bag refills to hand out instead of entire dog waste bag holders

The Committee discussed diversity of outreach opportunities to avoid seeing the same people or “preaching to the choir:” general events like festivals, concert series, giving items to other local staff who are working events, etc. were discussed as great ways to get in front of new audiences. ACTION: HRPDC staff will order 5,000 black eyed Susan packets.

8. Roundtable Virginia Beach - outreach materials recovered from Building 2 and restarting

outreach program Chesapeake - Community event series through September (every other week),

may request trailer for farmers markets at Chesapeake City Park, Neighborhood Harvest lunch and learn opportunity

Norfolk - Summer camps with community centers Hampton - summer camp outreach

ACTION: None.

9. Staff Reports

Budget – FY20 budget - HRPDC staff recommend starting a trailer replacement reserve fund with the $500 excess storage budget per year moving forward. The other committees have agreed to do the same. RCS contribution was $1,500 too high in draft Stormwater Technical budget so the Committee has extra funding in the media budget. FY19 budget - final wrap installation cost higher due to adhesive removal and new screws to prevent rust staining. It was recommended to wrap the underside of the trailer windows. FY21 budget – HRPDC staff have submitted the draft budget to the Stormwater Technical Committee (flat budget) to be approved by the Regional Environmental meeting in September. Digital Marketing Report – Pet waste campaign page had higher traffic than the home page (first time a media campaign has accomplished this). This is a great metric to show the success of this campaign. Look at pledges for pet pictures to highlight on social media. ACTION: None.

Next Committee Meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 16, 2019 in Chesapeake.
