Prayer for Hurricane Season O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

You Need to Know: As some of you are aware, another casualty of the coronavirus pandemic was the pilgrimage I was supposed to be leading beginning this week. Pilgrimages to holy sites have been a part of our Church since the earliest years. One of the most well-known of the early pilgrimages was that of the Roman Empire citizen Egeria. Her pilgrimage became well-known because she wrote about it in diary form, one of the first known Christian Travelogues. Egeria, who lived in Gaul, visited the Holy Land in the latter 300’s, according to many scholars. Not only did she provide a detailed description of Jerusalem, but more importantly, she gave a detailed account of liturgical practices conducted in the Holy Land and especially during Holy Week. “Everything was appropriate to day and to place,” is a famous quote attributed to her writing. Egeria’s description of the observance of Palm Sunday is the oldest known of that day. The liturgical year was just being devel-oped at that time. Her diary was thought to assist those in Rome with planning annual liturgical worship. Egeria’s Diary went from being a personal travel account to one of the most valued early Church documents– and something you need to know!
Congratulations and welcome to our new Parish Pastoral Council President Ruby Delaune—may you
have a most successful and fulfilling term.
Reminder during Mass:
“ Go and do likewise,” Jesus said– and so they did!
This group of volunteers, most from our St. Joseph family, literally took our parish on the road as they assisted in
Hurricane Laura recovery in Moss Bluff last weekend.
There are none so “least” of our brothers as those who
have suffered such destruction in their lives. Thanks, gentlemen, for showing the best of our parish to those in
need—may God bless you always!
