TheHotClubofPhiladelphiawasstarted in2003 by guitarist and singer BarryWahrhaftig,[War-hof-tig]. The band is an area favorite,usually playing the style called “Gypsy Jazz”.They will be working as a trio for the Festival,featuring the vocals of Phyllis Chapell alongwith the piano stylings of Reverend ChrisMarsceill. The Neglia Band from Clifton, NJ hasperformed at various feast day celebrationsin the Delaware Valley area includingHammonton NJ,Wilmington, DE,and Philadelphia,as well as in NorthJersey and NewYork arenas. Theywere honored toperform at the Italian heritage night forthe Phillies at Citizen Bank Park. The bandwas founded by Tony Neglia and is nowdirected by Rich DeZao.
Coro Gabriele D’Annunzio (The Coro)establishedin 1994, isunder thed i r e c t i o nof MaestroF e d e r i c oPiantini andis sponsoredby the Associazione Regionale Abruzzeseof the Delaware Valley. Dressed intraditional costume, they continue toperform folk songs, Italian classics, andoperatic selections at festivals, parades,colleges, and churches throughout thearea.
CONTINUOUS ENTERTAINMENT
The Pennsport String Band has embraced a model of string bandthat is revolutionary. They are not a year-round string band. Theyare a three month a year organization (October through NewYears) with a sole focus on their New Year’s Day performance.The string band makes an exception for thefestival and will return again this year, so besure to wear your “Mummer’s Strut” shoes!
This year the festival is pleased to welcome again Melissa Cannavo-Marino and Mary Lou Koch as Mastersof Ceremonies. Melissa hosts MattinataMusicale, a bilingual program of Italian &Italian American songs Sunday morningson 1450 WILM AM. Mary Lou Koch hasperformed in theatre and does commercials
in the Tri state area. She appears on QVC and has directed for MurderMystery Players and has MC’d at many ARA DelCo events.
