May 10, 2011. The International Institute of
Education and Management, New Delhi has honoured him by this award in recognition of
his outstanding achievements in the field of education.
Dr. Gopal Ranjan, DG COER has been the recipient of
Rashtriya Vidhya Samman Puruskar on the May 15, 2011.
The President and members of Economic Growth Society of India, New Delhi has honoured him by the award in
recognition of his sterling merit excellent performance and outstanding contribution for the progress of the nation and
worldwide.

Sequential M.Tech. at COER
M.Tech Sequential Programme of Uttarakhand Technical
University, Dehradun in Computer Science discipline for the MCA qualified faculty members started from June 13, 2011,
at College of Engineering Roorkee (COER).
Thirty three faculty members from different Engineering Colleges participated in this programme. In this programme
several experts such as Dr.Ishan Ranjan,Director & Professor, MIET,Meerut, Dr. K. V. Arya,Associate Prof., IIIT,Gwalior,Dr.
Mohal Lal, IIT, Roorkee ,Dr.D.Ghosh, IIT, Roorkee,Dr. Vikram
Kapoor, Omkaranand Institute, Rishikesh, Dr.Garima Krishna, DIT, Dehradun have been invited to deliver lectures.
Mr. B.M.Singh was the Chief coordinator and Mr. Kuldeep
Yadav was coordinator.
8th CONVOCATION of COER Eighth Convocation of College of Engineering Roorkee was held on Saturday April 2, 2011. Mr. Rajiv Sachdeva, Vice President, IBM India PVT. Ltd. was the Chief Guest. Mr. Neeraj Gupta, General Manager, Information Security, IBM India Pvt. Ltd. and Prof. D.S. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, UKTU, were the distinguished Guests of Honour. The event was declared open when the dignitaries lighted the lamp along with Mr. J.C. Jain, Chairman, COER and Dr. Gopal Ranjan, Director General, COER. Vice President and other guests were welcomed by Mr. J.C. Jain, Chairman, COER. Addressing on the occasion, Chief Guest, Rajiv Sachdeva, Vice
President IBM India PVT. Ltd. congratulated the degree holders and distributed Gold Medals and trophies to the first position holders of each branch/course. He advised all the students to always remember Code of Ethics and keep the interest of Nation as their top priority. Describing the culture of IBM, Mr. Neeraj Gupta, General Manager, Information Security, IBM India Pvt. Ltd. welcomed and encouraged the new passouts to join IBM for contributing
their best to the Nation. He recalled the contribution made by College Of Engineering Roorkee in the last few years and the tremendous development that has been taking place in the last one decade. He congratulated all the recipients of the credentials and wished them glorious career. Distributing the Silver Medals to second position holders of each branch/course, he expressed his immense happiness for all the achievers. Prof. D.S. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, UKTU, delivered the coveted “ Seth Roshan Lal Jain , Trophy” and University Gold , Silver & Bronze Medals to the winners. He gave his hearty wishes to all the degree recipients and congratulated them for their hard work, dedication and discipline to qualify for the award of degree. In all 412 B.Tech degrees, 59 MCA’s and 60 MBA’s were awarded post graduate degrees by the dignitaries. Vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Subahsh Jain, Secretary, COER. Prof D.S. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, UKTU announced the closure of the convocation.
Activities by Student Growth & Development Group
Mr. A.K.Upadhaya, Head of SGD Group of COER
delivered the Guest of Honour Valedictory address on
April 9, 2011 at UPES (University of Petroleum & Energy Studies), Dehradun on the theme of “Sustainable
Development in Energy Sector- HR related issues”. The International Conference was attended by a large
number of National & International delegates from India
& abroad. The talk was very well received and appreciated.
SGD Group Facilitated 9 sessions for Infosys selected COERians in the area of Soft Skills(IPR, Interview & GD
Skills) training, essential for selected candidates prior to
joining INFOSYS .
COER ECO CLUB
Under the supervision of Dr. Romesh Kumar Sharma, COER ECO-CLUB has organized an event “VICHAR” an Environment
Meet” April 26,2011
The event was catagorised into two sections namely Paper
Presentation & Sketch / Painting Competition. A total of 20 number of students in Paper presentation & 40
students in Sketch / Painting Competition actively participated.
The event was started with the key Lecture of Dr. Vinay
Shetty (DST, Scientist) Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar on topic “Avian Biodiversity & its Conservation in Urban
Habitat” followed by motivational speech of Dr.Gopal Ranjan,
Director General and Dr.Ankush Mittal, Dean Research.
The Literary Committee organized its prize distribution
ceremony on April 27, 2011. Winners of all the nine
events conducted by Literary Committee during the year
2010-11 awarded with trophies and certificates. The
committee members of 4th
year were recognized for their
exemplary services with certificates. The certificates of
design excellence given to students who contributed in
designing College Magazine Mucure.
The Linguistic Committee The Linguistic Committee has always aimed at the development of the COERian’s in every possible aspect. In order to boost
students confidence, polish their oratorical skills and to provide the COERian’s with the exposure of the competition which they
will face in the corporate world, the Linguistic Committee conducts various events time to time. In this direction, “The White Collar” was organized by Linguistic Committee under the coordination of Dr. Rashmi Gupta, Asstt. Prof. It was held in three
phases from April 19–20, 2011. These phases comprised of Presentations, Group Discussions and Personal interviews respectively. The event received a great response from all B.Tech, MBA and MCA students. The esteemed judges provided the
participants with their personal feedback, highlighting their strengths and areas to work upon. The event and its format were
much appreciated by the students and the faculty members altogether.
Sad Demise
This issue of Saraansh cannot help giving space to pay
hearty tributes to the departed soul of Mr. T.J.Marcos,
PS to Director General whose sudden demise has
aggrieved COER family. We pray the Almighty that
his divine soul may rest in peace.

Summer Internship Program - 2011 For the benefit of the B.Tech IInd and IIIrd Year students of all the
disciplines a Summer Internship Program 2011 was carried out. The COER Summer Internship Program (COER SIP-2011) is
seeking talented, knowledgeable and motivated students who want to play a significant role in their carrier. Under this program
COER students have participated & successfully completed various
research level projects under the supervision of six faculty members of COER,namely Mr. Kuldeep Yadav , Mr. Brij Mohan
Singh, Mr. Anurag Raii, Mr. Vishal Singhal, Mr. Taresh Singh and Mr. Amit Kumar.
This program was organized to enrich the students with the
knowledge so that they can successfully take part in research level activities & develop themselves so that they can develop rational
thinking& write international research papers & develop projects. 36 students also were registered for internship with I.B.M (India)
under the guidance of Dr. Ankush Mittal.

AIEEE-2011 For the admissions to B.Tech in first year of session 2011-2012, for
NIT’s ,self financed deemed Universities and self financed Private Colleges in some States, Central Board of Secondary Education
(CBSE) organized the All India Engineering Examination, AlEEE-
2011 on Sunday, May 01,2011 in different states of the country. AIEEE Examination is conducted to fulfil the eligibility criterion for
admission to Professional and Technical programmes. College of Engineering Roorkee also considers AIEEE for admission. It may be
noted that College of Engineering Roorkee (COER) was one of the
examination Centres. Under the supervision of Dr. V.K. Mehta, Centre Superintendent, 600 candidates appeared at COER centre
and completed the examination successfully.
