eclipse
solar eclipse lunar eclipse
object in space comes between sun & 3rd object-
casts shadow on that object
moon between Earth & sun
blocks sunlight from Earth
Earth between moon & sun
blocks sunlight from moon
occurs onlyduring full moon
occurs onlyduring new moon
solar eclipse
umbra= darkest part of shadowpenumbra= larger part of shadow-surrounds darkest part
lunar eclipse
partial lunar eclipse total lunar eclipse
tides
rise & fallof water
causedmainly
by force of Moon’s
gravity
at any one time:• 2 places
w/ high tides• 2 places
w/ low tides
Spring tide Neap tidetide with greatest difference between low & high tide
tide with least difference between low & high tide
gravity of sun & moon pull in same direction
moon is at right angle to sun
occur at new moon & full moon
occur at first & last quarter
straight line
90O angle
