TRANSCRIPT

Jade Medina5th HourThe article, The Story of An Eyewitness, written by Jack London is a column with sadness, destruction, and the transformation San Francisco made in only a couple days. London informs about how this disaster changed San Francisco for the good and the bad. London also went from factual evidence to an emotional appeal by telling the peoples stories. But London could have changed the perspective to one of a actual person going through the disaster.Jack London told the audience of a horrific natural disaster that people were going through. London described the disaster appropriately by using adjectives like burning lurid and Dynamite was lavishly used. London informed the readers that people were not ready for the disaster and trying going about it in an unordered and chaotic fashion but there were still no screams and cries. This means, the people were too shocked to even cry at the disaster. London describes the city as doomed. This meant the city has no chance to become better. The Story of An Eyewitness, isnt just a story about what Jack London saw, it is a story about the people whose lives were destroyed because of the misfortune. London tugs on your emotions by telling accounts from other people included in the catastrophe. London tells of a man that tells of his riches that will be gone soon because the flames are approaching. London also tells about peoples ruined lives. London urged a man on the street to take cover and safety and he replied Today is my birthday. Last night I was worth thirty thousand dollars all I own are these crutches.Jack London voiced his experience of the tragedy very well. He used explanatory and informational words and phrases to get you to see what he was seeing and feeling at the moments. Londons version of the story kept me quiet intent and I am happy with the work he did. The perspective he could have used to get the readers attention also could have beenone of an actual person going through the incident. London could have told of a person going from rich to dirt poor in the span of almost a week. By using this perspective it would have made the readers become upset and try to understand what the people were actually going through. This would also make the readers become more interested in what happens next. The readers will want to know if they struggle to become rich again or start over, and be poor. The Story of An Eyewitness, is an amazing article about a disaster that happened in San Francisco. Jack London told of people losing their riches and their emotional stories, as well as true facts that happened during the event. London could have appealed to the readers interest more by adding a different perspective but the way he told the story was dramatic and descriptive as well. I praise London for his factual and explanatory writing skills.
