8 th April 2019 Press Release n. 28 CEV REPSOL MOTO2 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP: The 2019 FIM CEV Repsol season started this weekend at the Circuito do Estoril in Portugal. Niki Tuuli (Team Stylobike) took the win in the first Moto2™ race, which was affected by water on the track. Edgar Pons (Baiko Racing Team) took the lead from the pole, but just three laps later Yari Montella (Team Ciatti) passed the Baiko Racing Team rider to pull away, imposing a good pace and posting a series of fast laps. Niki Tuuli also passed Edgar Pons and worked hard to claw back the leading rider. However, everything changed with four laps to go when Montella went down, losing all hopes of a win. But things went from bad to worse for the Team Ciatti rider: after rejoining in fourth position he fell yet again and, in the end, pulled out of the race. CEV REPSOL MOTO2 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP:

The 2019 FIM CEV Repsol season started this weekend at the Circuito do Estoril in Portugal.

Niki Tuuli (Team Stylobike) took the win in the first Moto2™ race, which was affected by

water on the track. Edgar Pons (Baiko Racing Team) took the lead from the pole, but just

three laps later Yari Montella (Team Ciatti) passed the Baiko Racing Team rider to pull

away, imposing a good pace and posting a series of fast laps. Niki Tuuli also passed Edgar

Pons and worked hard to claw back the leading rider.

However, everything changed with four laps to go when Montella went down, losing all

hopes of a win. But things went from bad to worse for the Team Ciatti rider: after rejoining

in fourth position he fell yet again and, in the end, pulled out of the race. With Niki Tuuli

winning and Edgar Pons taking second, the third podium position went to Randam Rosli

(Onexox TKRR SAG Team).

The second Moto2™ race was declared dry so all the riders were able to put on slicks. From

the start Tuuli took the lead ahead of Edgar Pons and Héctor Garzó (CNS Motorsport),

setting a pace that surprised his rivals. However, Garzó put in a series of fast laps and

pulled back the Team Stylobike rider, taking Zaccone (Promoracing) along with him. On

lap nine Garzó and Tuuli both rode across a wet area of the track and almost went down.

Zaccone took advantage of their error and established a lead which he held to the end.

Despite falling back to fifth position Tuuli recovered well to cross the line in second place.

Pons took the final podium slot by beating Garzó by barely half a second.

With these results, Niki Tuuli leads by 9 points from Alessandro Zaccone and Edgar Pons.

Next round is on 28th April at Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Barcelona, Spain.

EMX 125 2T AND EMX 250 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP:

FORATO AND GUADAGNINI DOMINATE DUO IN TRENTINO

The second rounds of the 2019 EMX250 and EMX125 presented by FMF Racing

Championships took place this weekend at the Trentino circuit where Italy’s own Alberto

Forato and Mattia Guadagnini from Maddii Racing Husqvarna took the respective wins.

The round of Trentino is always one of the best attended by fans and riders due to not

only Italy’s passion for motocross but also the incredible venue, its surroundings, and

unique circuit. This weekend the two FIM Europe Championships had a combined list of

193 entries.

EMX250 Race 1 on Saturday started in dramatic fashion as riders piled up in both the first

and second turn. Creymert Racing’s Kevin Horgmo came away unscathed and held the lead

early but Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini moved to the premiere position in

the second lap. Rubini led the way while the championship leader, Maddii Racing

Husqvarna’sAlberto Forato, was back in around 4th. Forato made passes on both

Rubini’s Honda Redmoto Assomotorteammate Pierre Goupillonand Horgmo to get into 2nd.

Forato was in pursuit of the lead and Rubini until the Frenchman lost the lead on his own

accord, winning by 11.6 seconds over Rubini. Horgmo took 3rd while Goupillon

and Ghidinelli Racing Team’s Giuseppe Tropepe rounded out the top 5.

Race 2 was led by Rubini after the start but he had Forato making quick passes behind him

to apply pressure from 2nd. On the 2nd official lap Rubini was passed down the Pit Lane

straight parallel to the start by Forato to the home crowd’s cheers but Forato then fell

handing Rubini the lead straight back. Forato got back up and immediately went back to

work seemingly unphased taking the lead role back by the next time across the finish.

Goupillon was watching the battle for the lead from slightly further behind in before

eventually getting passed by Tropepe for 3rd position. At the finish Forato carried on his

dominant and perfect season with his 4th race win in 4 races and second overall. Rubini

finish both second in the race and 2ndoverall while Tropepe took the final podium spot.

ENDURO EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP: DOUBLE WIN FOR KOUBLE IN PORTUGAL

The only 21-year-old Krystof Kouble from the Czech Republic won both the first and the

second day at the start of the European Enduro Championship in Gois, Portugal, taking

the in the overall classification.

Page 8: 8thApril 2019 Press Release n. 28 CEV REPSOL MOTO2 … · 2019-04-09 · (Onexox TKRR SAG Team). The second Moto2™ race was declared dry so all the riders were able to put on slicks

Heavy rain and hailstorms made the track muddy and slippery and led the organizers to

some detours.

In Day 1 the KTM rider immediately took the lead and extended his lead to 22 seconds

until the end. After a crash in the enduro test his lead had shrunk a little, but overall all

participants had to struggle more with the weather conditions than with the competition.

Second overall position for the Finnish Eemil Pohjamo (TM 300 2T) and third for the Swede

Albin Elowson. The Czech Zuzana Novackova won the Women category, collecting the

fewest penalty minutes on the demanding track: in the end she had over eight minutes

over Hanna Berzelius from Sweden

Day 2 was much more difficult than the previous because of the mud and saw again the

domination of Kouble, who won also the Junior Class E2/E3. The Swedish Albin Elowson

won the Over 250 4T class and took the second place in the Overall with his Husqvarna.

The Finnish Eemil Pohjola, ahead of Elowson in Day 1, lost some time after a crash.

The Swedish Max Ahlin won among the youngest participants in the Junior Under 21 class,

as he did on Day 1. The 17-year-old Sherco rider finished sixth overall, just behind 125cc

last year's winner Roni Kytönen from Finland, who this season moved up to the junior

class. The Finnish Petri Pohiamo, who has been successful in the Enduro World

Championship in the past, won his first seniors’ race over 40 years old. On the first day he

had to give up prematurely due to technical problems, so he is still a bit behind in the

championship.

The calendar:

1. 06th-07th April Góis / Portugal

2. 18th-19th May Brenzo / Slovakia

3. 29th-30th Juni Madona / Latvia

4. 06th-08th September Heinola / Finnland

Bizkaia Arena of Bilbao, Spain, together with Maxxis FIM Superenduro World Championship

and an exciting crowd of over 2.000.

15 riders took part to the qualification for the finals, in a technical track with a lot of

different jumps and obstacles such as logs and stones.

Winner of the first final was the French Paul Bury, while the German Robert Scharl got

the second.

After the two finals Scharl won followed by Bury, second, and Tom Knight, third.

SNOWCROSS EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP: FILIP ÖHMAN WINS THE ROUND

The FIM Europe Snowcross Championship took place on 4th April in Bodens Travbana,

Page 10: 8thApril 2019 Press Release n. 28 CEV REPSOL MOTO2 … · 2019-04-09 · (Onexox TKRR SAG Team). The second Moto2™ race was declared dry so all the riders were able to put on slicks

On the 740m long track Filip Öhman was the most impressive once the racing started

taking the lead of Final 1 from the first lap and never losing the position before finishing

nearly 20 seconds ahead of second place rider Jens Vikman.

Final 2 was led by Robert Lunden for most of the time but with 4 laps of 16 remaining he

dropped to 4th handing the lead to Öhman. After holding on to the inherited lead for the

final laps Öhman took the race by 4 seconds and the overall championship win with the

maximum 50 points! 2nd overall went to Jens Vikman and Gustav Salomonsson took 3rd.
