The flight simulation lab in the ISyE department.

• Each year, approximately 100 students work at a co-op or internship.

• Students can participate in any of more than 50 engineering student organizations, including the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Alpha Pi Mu (the industrial engineering honor society), the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society (HFES) and the Society of Women Engineers. In recent years, both IIE and HFES have won gold awards as outstanding student chapters of their respective national organizations.

• More than 10 percent of our students earn additional certificates, including in mathematics, technical communication business and a new Six Sigma Green Belt.

• More than 5 percent of our students have double or even triple majors; the most common double major is in economics.

Research Excellence

Research activities in industrial and systems engineering span a wide range of techniques and approaches, many of which are also of interest to other disciplines. Consequently, our faculty and graduate students collaborate extensively with researchers in other departments. Reflecting that, our faculty members have joint appointments in biomedical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, engineering physics, manufacturing systems engineering, mechanical engineering, business, computer sciences, library and information studies, and nursing.
