their facial expressions it seems as if they are happy about something that they are watching because they are all looking in one direction. When watching the trailer , this shot is actually showing the first stage of the prank that has gone wrong. So audiences may assume that these are just high school girls enjoying themselves and causing no problems. Analysing the background, the room is how a typical high school girls room would look like. So audiences which watch this that are girls will be able to relate. The lighting is low frequency but the light/lampstand makes it seem as if the lighting is high. This is to be expected in a horror trailer. In this shot , we are focusing on the taglines that contrasts with what is happening at that moment. As soon audiences see this tagline they would want to know what the prank is and if it went well or not. The background colour for this tagline is ‘black’. The signals audiences would be receiving would be negative because the colour black represents death, danger, funeral and evil. This contrasts with what has happened. The text is in white . Personally I don’t think the white represents anything for now , they may have selected that colour because it stands out when on top of a black background.

In this shot , we see 5 group of friends in a bedroom. Looking at their facial expressions it seems as if they are happy about something that they are watching because they are all looking in one direction.

This shot could be said to be an Ariel shot. This is because this shot shows audiences what is happened and it seems as if they are up to something. This shot shows all of the 5friends we saw earlier and one of them laying on the floor pretending to be dead. The use of the red light from the car at the background could possibly mean that something bad is going to happen very soon. Having a car in the middle of nowhere fits in with horror trailer conventions. From the cameras point of view it actually engages the audiences because where the camera is positioned it seems as if someone is spying on them and someone knows their hidden secret. But they are not aware that someone is watching them. Lastly in this shot on of the girls is standing a distance from the rest of the girls. This shows that she has a feeling that something bad may happen and this prank may not go as they planned.

In this shot the camera is focusing on the sharp object that the character is holding. Just by this shot the audience can instantly figure out that he is going to use it for the wrong reason. It seems as if he is going to kill someone. The object is grey and the shape is like a cross. This could be symbolic . By this I mean that evil has taken over good. He has both his hands on the object and the way he is holding seems as if he is being forced to do something and feels emotional about what he is about to do. This follows horror codes and conventions because a sharp like a guns and knives are portrayed a lot as a sign of death.

This shot is now showing us another tagline that links in with what just previously happened. These two words leave audiences confused and thinking because they would be eager to know what the secret it. The colours and background colour also makes it seem interesting and mysterious. Up to this point so much negative things have happened in one night with the 5 friends and 1 boy. This would encourage audiences to watch the film at cinemas. This tagline links in with the previous tagline which quoted “ A prank”. Audiences now know all this is a prank that went wrong now a tagline appears saying “ A secret”. This gives them a little insight of what the secret may be.

This shot is a close up of the phone in one of the characters hand. The way the camera is held from an high angle from the characters point of view and looking at the picture that was sent . It takes audiences back to the male character holding the same object . This implies that someone else knows about their little secret and may try and threaten them. Depths of field is used here which focuses only on the phone. This is very important because there 5 girls lives could be over just because of this one picture.

This shot is also a depths of field shot. This is because the camera is focusing on the writing on the wall which says “You’re next” in the colour red. The colour red could represent blood and death that is coming for each of the girls at a certain point in time. This also follows typical codes and conventions that we expect to see in horror trailers. This is part of it. That message could be for any of the 5 girls but the audience do not know who is the next person that will end up dying or even getting hurt.

This shot focusing on particularly the young girl that is running across the room away from the fire. There is a contrast here from the shot of “ You’re next” to a girl trying to save her life away from the unidentified killer. The fire could possibly symbolise death and how its coming for the remaining girls that are alive. Every bad thing happens in one night where they throw a sorority party. Low lighting is used here to make things more intense and petrifying. However the fire gives it that bright but scary look at the same time which audiences would appreciate.

In the trailer ,this is the last shot we see which is the title of the trailer. The font ,colour scheme and text is consistent throughout the whole trailer. This font is more effective than the taglines font. The colour is still white but a bolder white and the line that’s underlined in the colour red which represents so many things through out the trailer. The background is black which follows the codes and conventions of trailer films.
