We thank all our chess children for taking part in the competitions throughout the year. This was the last one for 2016. We are looking forward to a great 2017 as well!
We brought 6 medals home with us!
On Saturday, the 29th of October, 24 of our children took part in the SACSSA National Championships in Alberton. They played 6 rounds and all 24 came back with points behind their names. We are so proud of them! Two of our participants managed to win all 6 games, congratulations Drake and Taonga!
The competition was very tight, as some of our participants in the higher age groups won 5 out of 6 games and did not even place in the top 3.

TELL THE TRUTH!The following teachers are hiding in the passage below. Can you find them?
The Pastor was preaching his sermon ‘I can tell the truth, rather than lie’. ‘It’s not easy to repel serious temptations to lie regularly’, he told the people. Some people thought a lie was an untruth, others thought it was a dishonest statement, but is was actually both, and they always made you feel unclean. Never cross over the fine line between melodramatic exaggeration and the rubber range of sin in telling lies.
CLUE: The teachers’ names are Mrs. Pelser, Mr. Botha, Mr. Nel, Teacher Mel,Mr. Lier, Teacher Leanne, Mr. Berrangé, Teacher Hanlie, Teacher Monica.

When in the last 200 years was there a year which read the same upside down?
You have three boxes, all sealed. The first is full of oranges, the second full of lemons, and the third full of a mixture of oranges and lemons. All the boxes are incorrectly labeled. You are allowed to pick a piece of fruit from one box only. How can you now tell which box is which?
A house painter paints numbers on all the houses in a new estate from 1 to number 100. How many times does he paint the number 9 in the process?

Each question below contains the initials of words which will make the statement cor-rect e.g. 27 L of the A = 27 Letters of the Alphabet.
This test does not measure your intelligence, your fluency with words and certainly not your mathematical ability. It will, however, give you some indication of your mental flex-ibility and creativity. In the three years since this test was developed, few people have been found who could solve more than half the questions in the first attempt. Many solved questions long after setting the test aside for a few days. In most cases how-ever, several days were required to solve all the questions.
1. 27 L of the A2. 7 W of the World3. 18 H on a G C4. 7 D in a W5. 24 H in a D6. 2 W on a B7. 11 P in a F T8. 12 M in a Y9. 8 T on an O10. 29 D in F in A L Y11. 52 W in a Y12. 60 M in a H13. 15 P in a R T14. 5 T on a F15. 12 D of J C

A man is holding a bucket full of water. He turns the bucket upside down but the bucket remains full of water. How come? (Before you respond: the bucket has no lid, the water is not frozen, the man is not in a space capsule, and he is not swinging the bucket around so that centrifugal force keeps the water in the bucket.)
What can pass through water without getting wet?
