When you have completed the course Electronic Music Production at SOMA, you will be able to complete this project / exercise in 90 minutes, taking a set of multi-track 'stems' of an existing song, and remixing it in Ableton Live to create your own original electronic music.TRANSCRIPT
90 Minutes to Remix The final (summary) lesson for Electronic Music Production at SOMA

1. Change the beat either use the drum / kit core 808 or 909 (Ableton Live 9) to
make a new beat (refer to Lesson 1)
or use a drum loop sample to make a new beat (also found in
Lesson 1)
if you use a loop, you have to chop up parts of it
make 3 variations of your beat
you have 15 minutes
2. Add instruments select from Ableton’s Instruments and add a pad and a synth
keys (or anything else you like)
this song is in they key of ...? (ask someone who can work
out tunes by ear, or Google it)
keep your tune or chords simple
you have 15 minutes
3. Add effects select from Ableton’s audio effects and add a reverb, a delay
and a filter to tracks of your choice
use the automation envelope (the red line) to draw in
changes to the filter
use it also to switch your delay on or off
you have 15 minutes
4. Change the structure change the song into a radio edit (not more than 3 ½
minutes long)
beats, bass and instruments start immediately
copy and paste sections to get verse, verse, breakdown,
verse (or your own variation)
use crashes (from kit 909) and filters to mark out the sections
you have 15 minutes
5. Mix and master set every track to -5 volume, and master track to -1
adjust the track levels to suit your taste, but make sure
nothing goes into the red
add a compressor (Brick Wall) to the master track
you have 15 minutes
6. Render / export your track click and drag to select the whole song
from the menu choose file - export audio
your remix is done!
