About HRSD
Raw sewage was discharged to open area waterways and ditches before HRSD was created in 1940.
MissionWe protect public health and
the waters of Hampton Roads by treating wastewater
effectively.

southeast Virginia, an area of over 3,087 square miles.
We operate 9 major treatment plants and 7 smaller plants in eastern Virginia with a combined wastewater treatment capacity of
249 million gallons per day.
