Department of Health and Families

Since 2005 a progressive refurbishment program of school based dental clinics has been undertaken across

the Territory. The refurbishments have been undertaken to address existing occupational health and safety

issues and to ensure compliance with updated infection control standards.

The dental clinic at Wanguri Primary School has been refurbished to provide a full assessment and treatment

service. It is anticipated that resumption of routine services from the dental clinic will occur at the beginning

of 2009 school year.

OHS-NT recognises that the requirement to access off-site services may impact on some families. However

a visit to the dentist should seen as the same as visiting a doctor, an activity that children should not be ex-

pected to undertake without appropriate adult support. To help accommodate the needs of parents and stu-

dents, OHS-NT is investigating the capacity to vary operating hours to provide additional ‘after-hours’ ap-

pointments.
