Since 1984 and over 5,500 wild animals later, the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation has provided quality, professional care and rehabilitation for injured or orphaned wildlife in order to return healthy animals to the wild. The animals released include: black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, foxes, raccoons, porcupines, beavers, squirrels, cottontail rabbits, weasels, river otters, mink, marmots, turtles, snakes, migratory and “local” song-birds, egrets, herons, owls, falcons, hawks and eagles. The Foundation’s success rate for returning animals to the wild is around 80%, and this includes those animals that come in too sick, starving, or injured to survive more than a few hours. The survival rate for bears and mountain lions returned to the wild is 98% and 100% respectively. They are tracked through their tags, collars or chips. If the Foundation were not here to help, all the animals admitted to PSSWF would have faced a sure and often slow, painful death. www.schneegaswildlifefoundation.orgpsswildlifefound@wildblue.net970.876.5676 Stop by the Coldwell Banker Mason Morse tent on Saturday in support of Aspen Wildlife Foundation.
