Potentate From page 1I encourage every unit to participate in as many as possible. If there are two parades on the same day, I would ask that if your unit can split up, please send some of your members to each parade. Being recognized is a great tool for membership and exposure for our Shriner’s Hospitals.

There are two important fundraisers being held at Midian in September that benefit Shriner’s Hospitals. On Saturday, September 13th, the Electraglide Elite is holding a Poker Run and on Sunday the 14th, Midian is hosting a car show and swap meet. See the ads for these here in the Topics for complete details on each. Your support by attending or participating in them would be greatly appreciated.

For those of you traveling over the busy Labor Day Holiday, on behalf of the Divan and our Ladies, we wish you a safe journey!!!

of the Grand Lodge of Kansas “Chance to Advance Class” on August 9th, were initiated as Midian Nobles, in a Short Form Ceremony that evening. Even more exciting is that three of the new Nobles are going to and are competing at CSSA in Tulsa. A list of these new Nobles, along with the rest of the new Nobles from this year, are listed elsewhere in the Topics. Please make sure you greet these new members when you see them.

Over 150 Nobles, Ladies, family members, along with several potential members and their ladies, were thor-oughly entertained by Curtis Waltermire, a Mentalist and Magician, at the August 20th joint meeting. If you were not here, you missed a great program. Thanks, to the Chefs Unit, for cooking hamburgers and brats prior to the show. With the success of this event, we are looking at doing something like this at the October meeting.

Parade Season shifts into high gear this month with lots of opportunities to put Midian Shrine in the public’s eye.

Yours in the Faith,Ed Day

“Democracy is the Art and Science of Running a circus from the Monkey cage”.

Who Dares Wins - The quote is not by a person, but rather is the slogan of the British Special Forces. - “Who Dares Wins.” - Simply stated the person who dares to take chances wins. Think about it. Everybody who is a winner, a success, is there because at some point they dared to be different, dared to take a chance, dared to believe in something nobody else did.

The Dodge City Shrine held their August meeting on Wednesday the 13th at Central Station in Dodge City.

For August, this was a good turnout, which was surprising with people on vacation – and – getting ready for going back to school – and the farmers getting ready for another season – it was a truly good group who came out. The food was great – and the comradeship of fellow

Brothers is always a joy to have. The Shrine Club were involved

quite a bit with the Dodge City Days which were held again this year.

The Dodge City Shrine Circus for 2015 will be held on Saturday, 07th

February with 3 performances and Sunday, 08th February with 3 performances which will be at the Dodge City Civic Center. So please put this on your Calendar and mark it for 2015.

The DC Shrine Club will hold their September meeting at the Casey’s Cowtown Club – 503 E. Trail St., Dodge City, KS. Phone: (620) 227 – 5225 --

The meeting is on Wednesday, 10th September at 6:30 pm for social hour and dinner served at 7:00 pm.

Don’t forget our next meeting at 4pm Saturday, September 6th, at Deer Grove RV Park, east of El Dorado on Rte. 254. Buy a ticket from any Butler County Shrine Club member. This will be our Butler County Shriners 2nd Chance. This will be some good ol’ El Dorado cooking by Noble Richard Wentworth, and if you didn’t get what you wanted at the last Sportsman’s Event, we will provide some opportunity for a Setter 12 gauge shotgun, four 2015 WSU Men’s Basketball tickets, Butler County College 2014 home game football tickets, some gift certificates, homemade goodies, and some other neat items. Thanks to Noble Dale Lee for rounding up many of the items.

Ladies come on out to the Ol’ Fashion Tea Party at Noon on Saturday September 20 th at Flint Hills Services, 505 Walnut Valley Drive, El Dorado, behind the Holiday Inn

Express south of the I35 toll way entrance. Hats and gloves

suggested, but not required. RSVP to Theresa K. after 5:30pm at 316-253-2231 by Sept. 12th.

It is with sadness that I must report the passing of Noble Sherman Parry. I believe Sherm embodied many traits most of us strive to exhibit and live by. He lost his mobility after surgery years ago, but his good nature and spirit persisted. An instant friend I will always miss. In the illness column, Lady Leona Kenny broke her foot and ended up in the hospital. Unfortunately I do not have an update on how she and Noble John are doing.

As far as the last meeting goes, we were able to welcome Noble Rick Whiteside, who motorcycled a few blocks from his place in El Dorado to check us out. Rick is a new Noble from the last fall class and we certainly hope he will join our club as well.

Greenwood County CARL “C.F.” COXReporter

Summer is winding down… Kids are back in school, and fall is right around the corner. We finished off the summer with a trip to Tulsa for CSSA. At the time I am writing this we are still diligently practicing our routine and polish-ing bikes, but by the time you read this it will be in the record books. I hope we did well! I wonder who received the coveted “Driving Miss Daisy” this year?

Congratulations to one of Midian’s newest Nobles. Noble Kelly Wright and his lady Lynne joined the 3-Wheelers and Greenwood County in August. Noble Kelly went through the C2A class to get his Master Mason and then through the short form Shrine class on August 9. They are already very involved in our unit and will be joining us at CSSA. Welcome aboard to one of the greatest units in Midian!

The PRCA Rodeo wrapped up on August 16 and preliminary numbers show that attendance and our beer sales were up over last year. The weather was warm and the beer was cold which helped both attendance and sales! Thanks to the committee for putting this all together. Hopefully it will take hold and stay an annual event.

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, Sept. 16th. Fidelity Lodge is hosting an

ALL MASONIC Cookout at the newly updated Lion’s Park.

Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided along with tea and water. All you need to bring is your favorite “pot luck” side dish,

lawn chairs, and any other beverages you wish to drink. And, since this park is not in the city limits, adult beverages are allowed as well. Several have asked about having a family style cookout, so here it is. There are nice shelters with plenty of shade, brand new playground equipment, and tennis courts. If you know of anyone who would make a good Mason and Shriner; prospects are welcome too. Bring the kids, grandkids, or even the neighbor’s kids and come enjoy the evening. In order for the Lodge to plan accordingly, please let one of the Fidelity Lodge Officers know if you can make it. They are Nobles: C.F. Cox, Lonnie Nichols, or Robert “Fergie” Ferguson. This will help give us a head count so we have plenty of burgers and dogs.

Since we are getting into fall, don’t forget, the Haunted House is right around the corner… Work days will be starting soon and we need all the help we can get. More to come on this at our September meeting which will be Sept. 10 at the Country Club. See you there…

Barber County JONATHAN WALZ Reporter

Mark your calendars to attend Barber County FireWagons annual 4 person golf tournament September 27th at the Anthony golf Couse in Anthony Kansas. Registration begins at 8am, tee off time will be 9am. Our 4 person scramble is open to the public, and both women and men are invited! So grab some partners and tell your friends to attend! Call Jonathan Walz at 316-371-8977 to register

your team. Entry fees are $60/person or $240/team, this in-

cludes a golf cart and lunch. Beverages will also be available. All participants will receive door prizes. There will be

prizes given away for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams, and also longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. All proceeds will benefit Barber County Shrine club. Entry fees are not tax deductible.

Hillbilly Band JOHN HECKMANReporter

The Black Camel continued his somber journey among our friends, Brothers and Nobles since last we met., most recently touching trom-bonist Noble Neil “Butch” Ginest, who took Veteran status with the Hillbillies some years ago in order to devote more time to his first love…teaching improvisation and jazz arts at Friends University.

While not exactly a member of the HBB, well-known area guitarist, music educator and inventor Noble Bob Wiley worked with many Hillbilly members over the years; in particular the late fiddler Noble Bill Boggs. Noble Wiley was something of an Marea prodigy and spread his talents over several decades, hosting his own TV show while still in high school and continuing to work solo and duo gigs in the region until shortly before his recent and unexpected illness and death.

Not a Shriner but a frequent “guest” on HBB stages for several years before passing earlier this year was trombonist the late Bill Skillman, known for his quiet demeanor, off-beat humor and smooth performance, not only with us but with large groups such as the Norman Lee and Eddy Howard or-chestras, and what was known at the time as

the Boeing Big Jazz Band. While a talented “reader” and teacher, Bill also enjoyed the freedom of the HBB’s small-group improvi-

sational style, calling it “My kind of carrying on!”

Reed man Noble Rick Milhon and guitarist Noble Jim Malia should have visited and returned from CSSA by the time you read this. Prior to their trip they said they had nothing special in mind, but are bound to have wandered into some form of mischief …musical or otherwise…during their trip, so stay tuned!

Welcome…finally…to bass guitarist Noble Don Klein and lady Sondra. Illness and confusion over rehearsal and perfor-mance dates delayed his first “active status” performance with us but it was worth the wait. At the recent Farmer‘s Market job he settled into a groove and proceeded to show the crowd what “walking bass“ rhythym is all about! He’s working in place of Veteran Noble Bob Bergman, who’s had to take undetermined-length non-playing Veteran status for medical reasons.

A very busy Fall season of performances is upon us… next gig is the regular rehearsal September 4th.

Oriental Band “OUT OF TOWN”Reporter

Thanks once again to Noble Gary Ummel and the Harper County Fire Department for their hospitality before the Harper Parade. Those guys would make great Shriners, right Shorty?

Veteran OB drummer Noble Larry Holmes, Lady Janet was in a car accident with her sister while in Tulsa. As of this writing she is in serious condition but they are working on a way to get her back to Wichita. Keep Larry and the family in your prayers.

The report on CSSA will be coming to you in the October Topics. As I write this the OB is gearing up for their famous bus ride to Tulsa! Some unnamed hero will receive the Horse’s

A award before we return! The OB had their pre-CSSA party

at Lake Afton on the 17th of August. Choice rib eyes from The Fresh Market were on Noble Carl Donham’s grill with

plenty of good side dishes courtesy of the band-aids! The highlight of the day was the running of the “Freakness”. Of course Noble George Finley, our liaison, blew away the competition. That’s sort of sandbagging isn’t it George?

The first picture this month shows all the “Jocks” lined up for the big race…………. The other is all the fancy ladies in their fancy hats with their bets down!

Provost GuardThe Provost would like to

welcome the following Nobles to the Provost. Levi M. Swartz, Levi Hauserman, Jeremy Cates, Arylan Siebert and Rod Betzen. This is an outstanding group and they will be great additions to our team. If you would like to join the Provost we meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00PM at the Shrine.

CSSA is just around the corner. Our

P r o v o s t M a r s h a l l D o n Brunhoeber will lead a powerful

team to Tulsa, OK.I am looking forward to seeing some

new trophies in our case. Concealed classes will be offered again this Fall.

Times and place to be announced. The new shirts are available contact

RICHARD BENNETTReporter

Electraglide EliteIt’s difficult to believe but here

we are in September already and we really all owe a “tip of the Fez” to Captain Steve and Lady Sue for all the hard work this year! Their communica-tions to all of us are truly great and their leadership is so important. Looking back over the last few months and at all we’ve accomplished it isn’t hard to see all they’ve done for the Electraglide Elite.

As this issue gets to you, we are just days away from the MSKR, and once again the effort is paying off. Lots of donation money and auction items, circulation of the “run fliers” and getting the word out in the MC community can’t help but give us another successful event for our Shrine Kids! I know that the Captain and Officers appreciate what our Unit has done as do the Potentate and Officers of Midian. Here’s hoping we “draw the good weather card” on 9/13 and set an even higher goal this year for next year! There is still time to promote the event and round up final items for the auction so don’t let up now.

As far as this reporter knows, those that

journeyed off on distance runs like Sturgis and elsewhere, made

it back in good shape. The summer weather has been tolerable and the fall events look even better. Several new

motorcycles in the Unit along with some project iron so we’ll look forward to “two wheel get-togethers” as the weather cools down. We know too that Brother Norm Conley and Lady Debbie have been very busy with their move north. Our hopes and prayers of good luck are with them as they start a new chapter in their “book”. We’re anxious to hear about their experiences with Shrinedom there too but know that they’ll always be part of the Electraglide Elite!

The Sportsman’s Event was another success for Midian and the EE was right there again pitching in for the cause. Our commission check should be a good one this time too as we sold lots of tickets. Now Circus is on the horizon and another chance to add to the bank account with ticket sales. So on towards fall and all the adventures possible…remember dream big, it doesn’t cost any more!

NascartsIf you didn’t make the trip to

Pittsburgh Ks for the Shrine Bowl in July , you missed a really fun time. The four Nascarts drivers making the trip were Nobles Richard Steele and Trish, Randy Pierce and Connie, rookie driver Taylor Gelinas and Rachael and Richard Mardis. A good time was had by all and the hospitality was superb! The next weekend was the second annual sportsmen event which was another success (hopefully)! We were lucky enough to have good weather and a good turnout again. The folks I talked to said they had a good time and would come back again next year!

We have six guys who have been practic-ing for CSSA. We have our eyes on two first place trophys. I am sure it will be a good time, and will have to report back next month with

information on the hardware we are going to bring back. We have literally

been driving the wheels off those cars!Parades are starting to fill the calendar

and we had some guys do a double header with the Halstead and Harper parade. We still want to do the elusive trifecta(three parades in the same day)

Happy birthday to Carolyn Janzen on September 17. Happy anniversary to Noble Rusty and Gloria Suthards Sept. 8; Noble Nick and Tasha Young Sept. 19; and Noble Matt and Stephanie Cumbie on Sept.21st. Here is a thought to ponder. The farther up a ladder you climb, the less grounded you become! Ya’ll have a happy and a healthy. I’m Rick N. Bobby and I am out!

Keystone Kops “MOON”Reporter

Tulsa time is history and we Koppers put on a show. We had a great turn out of Kops and Kopettes who knew how to have a party. Our hospital-ity room was once again voted the top hospitality room at CSSA. Thanks Chief Jeremy “Woody” Woodson and Lady Tina for leading us through the awesome week we had down there! Woody is now the newest member of the exclusive Gold Whistle Club of outstanding Chiefs of the Midian Keystone Kops. Only past Chiefs of Midian Keystone Kops are eligible and we are the one and only unit that have this exclusive club in all of Shrinedom! Welcome to the club Woody. Wear your Gold Whistle proudly and don’t be afraid to blow it anywhere at any time you want, but let good judgment guide you as you do! Square whistles don’t fit so well in round holes. I hope to have more on CSSA next month.

We have a new Kopper as our unit contin-ues to be alive and thrive! Welcome new Kop Richard Hubbard. Richard brings along a pretty Lady named Cristin. I am not sure what Richard’s nickname is but I do know Cristin goes by “Pickle Whip”! Now that’s a nickname! I guess we could call Richard “Dill” until something better comes along. May your ride with the Kops be a fun and thrilling one. Just hang on the best you can

and the Kops will do the rest.We want to thank Hurley and

Lady Lesly for the hospitality over in Pittsburg after the Shrine Bowl. We had a good parade then proceeded over

to Hurley’s brother’s house for a cook out and liquid refreshments. It was a tad hot but we really had a great time over there. We were joined by Illustrious Sir Lonnie Nichols who told us some really interesting things about Shrinedom. Thanks for coming by Lonnie. I am sure Woody and Tina Brown had a interesting drive home from there with Charlie Brown and Kevin Holub entertain-ing them! I also want to thank Kevin for flying all the way in from Iowa to watch our CSSA skit practice. Maybe it will get you in the mood to join us next year?

I want to thank all of you who did go to CSSA! After all those hot Sunday afternoon skit practices we made it happen. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as Sue and I did. Next year we go to Colorado for a real Rocky Mountain high!

I Wonder?? Who won the Chug and Roll at CSSA?? I Wonder?? Can anyone get past Pickle Whip on a skating rink?? I Wonder?? Did Kevin really fly all the way back just to watch our skit practice?? I Wonder?? Will Moon do a Cheech and Chong skit next year?? I Wonder??

Midian Classics CLIFF PREMER Reporter

August found the Classics mak-ing final arrangements for CSSA in Tulsa. Thanks to Noble Jim Groff for coordinating dinner activities and travel plans. We’ll have 8 members and their Ladies attending with 6 cars competing. We’re excited about the opportunity to show our cars and to meet up with some old friends.

Also in August we were able to partici-pate in the Wingnuts tailgate party and the Harper parade. Nobles Cliff Premer, Gene Alexander and John Stewart and their Ladies were in attendance at the tailgate party. Thanks to Illustrious Sir Ed and First Lady Marilyn for cooking up some wicked hot dogs. The evening was topped off with a win by the Wingnuts….yea Wingnuts! On the parade route, some of us were able to make the Harper parade. Nobles Cliff Premer, Terry Schrant, Bob Fox and Ron

Boese made the trip and stuck around to partake in the hospitality

provided by Harper County. Happy birthday wishes to Noble

Jim Groff, and Lady Kay Premer. One of the two will be hitting a major mile

stone but I’d probably better not say what that is. You can ask and discover for yourself. Happy Anniversary to Noble Bob Fox and Lady Donna and to Noble Terry Schrant and Lady Pam.

Are you interested in Classic Cars? Come join the fun with the Midian Classics. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Pyramid Room at 7:00 PM. If you’re interested in finding out more about the Classics, contact Noble Bob Giesen at 316-721-4178, or stop by during one of our meetings.

Motor Patrol’s July meeting was held at The Scotch. They dis-cussed plans for CSSA and the membership luncheon described below. Brenden Jelinas was a guest. By the time you read this we will be back from CSSA with a trophy… Captain Jerod’s unit Uniform will be burnt Orange shorts, white Adidas polo with a Jeepster and a Black Deck Shoe for competition.

Motor Patrol had hospitality and a social evening at Noble Cy Lampe’s. Cy outdid his last dinner with this one. This was a well prepared prime rib and all the sides we would want. There were Lots of new prospects for the Motor Patrol. Noble Dave Johnson drove in Bob Fox’s old Jeepster with a first class detail done and ready for a driver. Another tip of the hat goes to Noble Cy Lampe for great hospitality. We hope some of you are enjoying the light of the Motor Patrol at the luncheons the Captain is sponsoring. The Captains intention was that it would be a luncheon sponsored by the Motor Patrol with him coming to speak at it. Motor Patrol has been lacking at membership and this was my attempt to improve as a unit. The Captain’s goal is to produce quality prospects for Masonry and the Shrine. The location has been reserved at the Scotch and Sirloin for Aug. 26th and the last Tuesday of every month for the rest of 2014. The captain asked the Scotch to sponsor this cost for us if we place their logo somewhere on the invita-tion. The captain negotiated a reduced menu with four items to choose from for the first luncheon. They will be providing a projector and podium. They will also be displaying on their parking lot sign something to the effect of: Welcome Masonic & Shrine Invitees.

Motor Patrol Members driving in the Shrine Bowl parade in Pittsburg Kansas were Captain Jerod Cox, Nobles Robert Ragsdale, Trustee Lynn Ungles, Derrick Metzger,

HP&P Rocky McWilliams, and Noble Frank Galbraith and Ill Sir

Ed Day, Divan members Wayne Wells, Bart Ogden, Gene Alexander, me, Mike Ward, Lawrence Tombs, Kent Butz, and Rodney Ott were there. Noble Rocky McWilliams is president of the Kansas Shrine Bowl and was chauffeured by Noble Frank Galbraith in the parade in Rocky’s Jeepster up front with the important people like the players and the all Masonic Band. The hospitality at the Lamplighter was outstanding. Lots of food and drink were enjoyed by all.

Motor Patrol supported the Sportsman’s Event buy selling and buying tickets and HP&P Rocky, me, Jeff Breault, PP Ron Capps, John McConnell, John Auch, Derrick Metzger, supported the event seeing if we could get our value in beer and hamburgers. Noble Cy Lampe won two guns. Reiferd did buy a Barrett 50 caliber that he is bringing to the MP stag this fall. It is great to see Reiferd up and walking around at the Sportsman’s event. We look forward to seeing more of Noble Reiferd and Lady Judy.

The parades in Halstead and Harper saw Nobles Jerod Cox, PP Ron Capps, Bob Ragsdale, Paul Mayfield, Cy Lampe, Trustee Lynn Ungles parading and the Harper parade added PP John Auch, Mickey West and Noble Reiferd Acord rode in the parade. A great time was had by all and they enjoyed hospitality at Noble Reiferd and Lady Judy’s house.

Membership is the key. That will be a great way to get ready for CSSA. We have Jeepsters looking for owners. If you are curi-ous about joining the Motor Patrol contact Capt. Cox at 316.322.3572. As always Keep Noble Archie Moon in your prayers. Jeepster pictures, new pictures, what to wear, and history of our activities are found on the www.motorpatrol.us website.

Million Dollar BandAs we entered August, Lady

Judy Oliver was recuperating from back surgery. She is doing well and Noble Ron is coping well with her limited activity. Noble Andy Roberts was prevented from July surgery on a rotator cuff by a nasty virus.

By the time you read this, we will be back from Central States Shrine Association meeting in Tulsa. If you were there you might have heard live music by a band made up of musicians from several temples in the CSSA. Most of the temples do not have a band. Musicians from those temples are eager to have a chance to play with this combined group. It’s also fun for the musicians from Temples with bands. Of the 20 some players at Tulsa, 9 came from Midian. You can be proud of the fact that Midian has an ongoing band program complete with three groups in addition to the Concert Band. Without the support of the Potentate, the Divan and the membership, the Million Dollar Band might

not exist. It does, so be proud! As we prepared for CSSA

(and CSSBA, the bands’ own gathering and elections) some of us were hoping there would be a chance to play in a

jazz oriented group or two. Of course we couldn’t know what would happen 12 to 15 days after the Topics deadline.

We made arrangements to get our parade trailer to Tulsa so the combined band could be in the parade on Saturday.

If you attended the August Stated Meeting you may have heard the DixieKatz swinging away in the Oasis. We like to think that this traditional jazz has universal appeal. Traditional jazz has experienced a resurgence in the last handful of years with numerous festivals dedicated to it in various parts of the country. The DixieKatz are glad to be part of the effort to preserve this American art form.

The Million Dollar Band tooted along the Mulvane parade route on August 16.

Ambassadors JOHN W. STEWARTMild Mannered Reporter

In August we gathered for another delightful night at the Candle Club. Our hosts were Noble Ambassador Jim Bartlett and Lady Mary and a good time was had by all. Thank you.

In attendance were, Noble Ambassador Floyd Walpole, Jr. and his new bride Lady Linda Hobbler. Congratulations and Best Wishes to you both from the Ambassadors of Midian and all of Midian Shrine.

I am happy to report that there isn’t much in the way of illness or distress this summer. However, we are saddened to learn of the passing of former Ambassador Ralph Kimsey who died in the Masonic Home here in Wichita on July 31,2014. Noble Ralph used to sail the Riverboat.

Noble Ambassador Andy Roberts did go in for a check up and I’m very happy to report that he avoided having Rotator Cuff surgery after all. In fact, Andy and Lady Cappy were seen dancing to 42nd Street at Music Theatre on August 6th. Lady Shirley Stewart has had her right foot in a medical boot since Father’s Day. No dancing and no driving except, ... in the back seat.

Also seen at Music Theatre was our very own Lady Ambassador Dorothy Harmon who was quick to tell this reporter that she was so sorry that the Ambassadors and other groups had accidentally been omitted

from·those invited to her recent 90th Birthday Party. These things

happen and the best one can do is say “I’m sorry”. Dorothy, you’re still in our Hall of Fame.

Our Riverboat stole the show at the Old Settler’s parade in Mulvane on August 16th. Sailing down the Arkansas River, passing the Port of El Paso (commonly known as Derby) and arriving in time for line-up was a real hit. Thanks to our Director General Noble Al Bass and our Chief of Property Noble Kenny Loffland. Historically, Shriners do love to parade.

CSSA was in Tulsa this year. and it was a lot of fun for those of us who attended. Too bad the rates were so high at the Port of Catoosa or we would have sailed in there and taken best of show.

By the time this issue is out we’ll have been to Walnut, Kansas with our Director General Ambassador Al Bass and Lady Retta. Anyone who missed the trip can just ask about the fun everyone had.

Until then, we’d like to see any and all of you at the Beacon. Weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The coffee, tea or whatever is only exceeded by the good service, fun and fellowship. Noble Ambassador Ward Marrs is still not telling how he gets so much attention from the girls or just how he always escapes and gets by free.

Antique Autos RUSTY BUCKET Reporter

Antique Autos met at Two Brothers BBQ on July 19th instead of holding their monthly meeting at the temple. We had a nice crowd at the social with Nobles Dale Gibson, Fred Booher, Grant Richecky, Jerry Elscott, Joe Matthews, Kent Butz, Larry Light, Mike Boyle, Randy Edwards, Ray Richecky, Vernon Kafka, Wayne Orr and their Ladies in attendance. Good food and great conversation was in abundance.

Thanks to everyone that sold tickets and helped at the 2nd Annual Sportsmen’s Event. What a fun day! Ray Richecky and Diana worked the taps upstairs. Mark Armfield, Ed Chrisco & Christal and Kent Butz & Linda worked the Grid game. Alan Orr & Sheila worked the Heads or Tails game. Jerry Elscott & Susan worked the door. Gary Gelvin & Denise, Larry Light and Christal, Dale Gibson & Linda and others worked where needed. Thank you again for your help.

Antique Autos is helping with the Midian Shrine Car Show

& Swap Meet on September 14th which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Get your car entered and enjoy the beautiful weather.

By the time you read this, CSSA will have come and gone and Labor Day has marked the last days of summer. We hope everyone had a safe and fun journey to Tulsa and returned home with lots of trophies and good memories. There is a full schedule of approved parades this fall. Don’t forget that your Lady and immediate family can ride with you in your car in civic parades. Bring them along and show how much fun it is to be a Shriner family.

Antique Autos meet on the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Isis Room East. Please come visit us if you are interested in old cars and having fun. We would love for you to become part of the Antique Autos family.

Horse Patrol GEORGE FINLEYReporter

By the time that you read this CSSA will be history. But we are planning on taking 3 horses, and I know that we will be bringing home some hardware.

Our next meeting will be Thursday September 11. We will meet around 6:00 pm and will have our meeting at 7:00 pm.

Until next time.

YoshiAs this is being written CSSA is

fast approaching and our excitement is building. The weeks of practices are behind us and it’s just about time to load up and head south to Tulsa. As you are reading this CSSA has occurred and we should all be back holding trophies and good memories. We hope everyone had a great time and all did well in the competition.

The Sportsmen Event was another fun event this year. Early reports back say

Midian did well again and that is was successful. Yoshi had a

few pit members that came out ahead on the prize list.

Our unit has been busy with CSSA practice and parades. After CSSA there

are still parades to attend so let’s get out there before winter arrives. Fall ceremony is soon so those members we haven’t seen in a bit, get you kart running and come out to play. Hope to see you soon!

Arab PatrolOther than weekly drills, this

reporter has very little to report. The Patrol did march in Shrine Bowl Parade held in Pittsburg, Kansas and had the honor of carrying the colors for Midian. Carrying the flags were Scott Oppegard, Foster Smith, Steve Travis, Greg Barley and Jay Danler with Devon Olson calling cadence. It was a little diffi-cult at times hearing the cadence because the Kansas Masonic All-Star Band was playing directly ahead of us. After the parade, there was plenty of food and refreshments in the joint Hospitality Room at the Lamplighter Inn. It was also nice to see Captain of the Guard Larry Tomes and Lady Michelle at the Kansas Shrine Bowl Banquet. I want to thank those patrolmen that help out with

the Sportsmen’s Event. The black camel paid a visit to the

patrol as Beth Olson’s dad passed away. Devon and Lady Beth would like to thank Mike Staats, Rob Raymos, Ray

Sanders, Foster Smith, Greg Barley, Steve Travis, Brian West and son, Kyle Rhorer and Larry Wilson and Lady Jackie for their assistance with the house cleaning in preparation for an estate sale. On the brighter side, Foster Smith and Lady Janet welcomed their 15th grandchild… a baby boy. Congratulations! Upcoming Patrol event for the September include a Patrol Picnic at Boeing Lake on September 13th, and possibly another night at Mosley Street Melodrama. Will keep you posted. Until next time, keep in step!

Mini-CyclesThe temperature is in the 90’s

and 100’s and that can mean only one thing. It’s time for Mini Cycles Christmas Party! The festival get together was again hosted by our fearless captain Noble Jimmy Decker at the house of the late Noble FJ and Lady Ruth Decker. Those in attendance feasted on gourmet food prepared by our captain while the kids played in the pool. The party was adjourned to 81 Speedway where we wit-nessed racing at its better. Thanks Jimmy!!

The Mini Cycles are preparing their

annual trip to CSSA in Tulsa. By the time of this publishing,

Midian should have the traveling trophys back in at Midian where they belong with the right names on them.

Hopefully our Captain will learn how to use a GPS and not end up in West Texas. Noble Troy Ayers will be there to defend his turtle trophy for the slowest in the obstacle course. A trip is planned to a go cart track to decide once and for all who is the fast-est, Jimmy or Troy. We are all betting on someone else. See you in the funny papers!

Arami Court JAN HIEBERTReporter

It’s been a busy summer so far. Arami Court participated in a parade in Halstead, KS and plan on being in the Mulvane parade. Our Ladies have put in a lot of time and thought decorating our float. We love getting to see all the folks who come out for the celebrations.

On Saturday, August 23 a carry-in lunch was held prior to the Ladies of Arami Court holding a colorful, fun ceremonial for eight (8) new members. We welcome these new Ladies and invite any other ladies who would like to be a part of a fun group of women whose purpose is to help Shrine kids, to please contact us. Our next ceremonial will be in January.

We enjoyed a pleasant, but quick, official visit by Grand High Priestess Bea Hillman. A covered dish dinner preceded our Aug. 27 stated meeting. The next evening several Arami Ladies honored Lady Bea at a dinner at Legends at the DoubleTree Hotel. The next morning Lady Bea was on to her next stop.

Our Kandyland Klowns and Midian’s Krazy Klowns are planning a steak feed for

Saturday, Sep. 13, 5-7:00 p.m. at Midian. The menu will be salad, a 10

oz. sirloin steak, baked potato, veggies and dessert. A silent auction will be held immediately prior to the dinner. Come on

out and join us!We continue to fix breakfast for the Midian

Nomads at Lake Afton. We’ll be cookin’ up something good in Sep. and Oct. See you there!

Planning continues for our “No Frills. No Fuss. Just Come See Us” Mid-States Unit Meet at the DoubleTree, Oct. 24-26. No formals, no banquets, nothing fancy, just good food, good fun and good fellowship.

Come to North Star Lodge on Thu., Oct. 2 (5:00-6;30 p.m.) for Lady Dianna’s Dinner fundraiser. She’ll be serving hamburger sliders (2), potato salad, baked beans and corn on the cob, all for $5 per person. Everyone is welcomed to join us! Call Lady Dianna if you plan to attend – 734-3197.

Until next time, the Graceful Swans of Arami Court will gracefully float on the water while we furiously paddle beneath the surface!

Daughters of the Nile SUE SHEETSReporter

I hope everyone has had a good summer. We are getting ready to go back to our regular schedule. Our first ses-sion back will be September 15th as the first Monday of the month is Labor Day.

We had our annual Ice Cream Social on July 27th. We had a very good turnout and lots and lots of ice cream and many other things to go with the ice cream. We left a lot for the Masonic Home. I hope they enjoyed it.

In August we had a Bunco Party as a fund raiser. We had nine tables and many of us had never played before but we had a lot of fun. Thanks to PR Judy Raaf for putting it together and the rest of the fund raising committee led

by PQ Sherry Clary. Queen Sue was the big winner. Some suggested

maybe it was fixed but Sue was one of the ones who had never played before. Just beginners luck.

If you would like to join us we would love to have you. You can contact any mem-ber who would be glad to give you some information about Daughters of the Nile. All monetary donations go toward the medical care and treatment of the patients in the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Members also sew garments, donate toys, games, books and other items as well.

Their Membership is ImportantAs part of our Masonic obligations, we are to look out for our Brothers in need. Below are a list of names, of Midian Nobles, that we are either unable to reach on the phone, by mail,

or any other means to help address their 2014 dues. We believe we are the world’s greatest fraternity, so we need your help reaching out to these Brothers/Nobles:
