Five new autographs – three of them women – for the historic Amarone Barrel Signing Ceremony, part of the Masi Prize, now in its 36th edition. There are three winners of the Masi Civiltà Veneta Prize, given to outstanding personalities from the “people of the Veneto”, working in the fields of culture, science and business. The first is the art historian Paola Marini “for her outstanding research in and promotion of the art of the Veneto, through her writings and her management first of all of the Civic Art Museums and Monuments of Verona and now of the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice; the business woman Elena Zambon, who won because of “her success in the fields of research and development abroad with the Zambon Group, but also because of her use of the Fondazione

Zoe and the Ethical Code to promote moral and social values in society”; the author and Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Verona, Emilio Franzina, “who has brought to light the often forgotten history of Italian emigration, focusing on social and political conditions, events that happened on the journey, and migration as an expression of popular art, letters and songs.” The Masi Civiltà del Vino Prize goes to Professor of Oenology at the University of Naples, Luigi Moio, “for his merits as a researcher, experimenter, teacher and communicator, which have given him authority in the world of science, and in the institutions and noble culture of viticulture and wine.”The Grosso D’Oro Veneziano, however – which is awarded

in collaboration with Fondazione Corriere della Sera – to people or institutions who spread a message of civil progress, friendship, fraternity and peace among the peoples goes to Yolande Mukagasana. The author of works on Rwandan genocide and already a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, Mukagasana won because she “has succeeded through her force of character, her writings and her speech in transmitting a message of truth, justice and reconciliation, as well as a warning about the conflicts and brutality that are feeding uncontrolled waves of migration, insecurity and mutual intolerance among peoples of different ethnicities.” For Sandro Boscaini, vice

president of the Masi Foundation and president of Masi Agricola, “there’s a common thread linking the winners in this edition, and it’s the value of remembrance. Remembrance of yesterday’s migrations as the key to reading those of today; the memory preserved in museums, that guard the traces of our civilisation; the memory of doing business over generations and finally that evoked by wine, with its notes and bouquet.” “Memory and tradition,” commented Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti, “are confused too often with folklore and old hat. On the contrary, they’re precious, like this prize, that has been observing the world for thirty-six years now.”

Prestigious accolades for Campolongo di Torbe Amarone Classico 2011 from the Cantina Privata Boscaini, which earns top marks in four of the most famous national wine guides for 2018.After the 96/100 in the Daniele Cernilli Doctor Wine Ultimate Guide, the prestigious label earns the 3-Glasses rating in the Italian Wines 2018 guide from Gambero Rosso, the Super-3-Star rating from the Veronelli Gold Wine Guide and the 5-Bunch rating in Bibenda, published by the Italian Sommelier Foundation, which was also given to the Riserva di Costasera Amarone 2012.For Sandro Boscaini, president of Masi Agricola: “After the 3 Glasses awarded to the Conte Federico Riserva Brut 2012 Conti Bossi Fedrigotti, we’re proud to bring the red that symbolises Valpolicella into the annals of Italy’s most authoritative guides. The Campolongo di Torbe Amarone and Riserva di Costasera Amarone are the most authentic

expression of our area and of our company’s expertise in appassimento, the result of qualitative research recognised by the guides, positioning us at the top of the Italian wine rankings.”The Campolongo di Torbe Amarone, a fine cru, from the historic vineyard of the same name, the qualities of which have been known from as far back as the twelfth century, brings together the best of the land and the attention to quality characteristic of Masi Expertise. This is why it has entered the unique collection of the ‘Cantina Privata Boscaini’, a hoard of ‘liquid treasures’ produced in limited quantities. The Riserva di Costasera Amarone, Masi’s gentle giant and point of reference for the Amarone category, steps forward with pride and exuberance. Here the expert use of the native Valpolicella Classico varieties Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara is enhanced by the presence of the original Oseleta, rediscovered by the Masi Technical Group in the 1980s

Gambero Rosso’s Guida Vini d’Italia 2018 gives Tre Bicchieri to the Trento doc, Conte Federico Riserva Brut 2012 Conti Bossi Fedrigotti, the sparkling wine that celebrates a decade’s collaboration with the historic winery from Trentino. For Isabella Bossi Fedrigotti: “This award for our Conte Federico Riserva celebrates the meeting of a tradition of winemaking that stretches back for more than one hundred years and modern techniques of vinification in the eternal quest for winemaking perfection.” “The 2012 vintage – says Raffaele Boscaini, head of the Masi Technical Group – is the culmination of our project to make a sparkling wine with

good structure, but with elegance and personality at the same time. Personality which has come through in six vintages thanks to the professionalism, perseverance and patience of a team of people who have transformed the private production of a few hundred bottles for the Count’s family into the production of a superb sparkling wine.”Conte Federico Riserva Brut 2012 has a bright, pale straw yellow colour with greenish reflections, a fine and lively mousse and a long and elegant perlage. The Masi Wine Experience has won an award in the “Facilities” section as one of the leading proponents of wine tourism. The Experience is Masi’s detailed project to bring the world of wine to the attention of consumers at an international level, together with the emotions it evokes, its territorial location and the economic and cultural references that surround it. The award was given to Masi President, Sandro Boscaini, during an event held in Verona organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Verona and Unicredit. The citation runs: “For having created a tour of experiences connected with wine that highlights all aspects of the subject and satisfies the curiosity of the most demanding wine tourist. The Masi Wine Experience project provides a journey through all the various aspects of oenological tourism and transforms it into a learning opportunity, a chance to deepen knowledge and have a relaxing time. In particular, we would like to underline the unique nature of the facilities to be found inside the historic Possessioni Serego Alighieri property, belonging to descendants of the Supreme Poet, Dante Alighieri, which give the visitor the chance to dive into the history of a noble family residing in the magnificent territory of Valpolicella: a unique experience with important evocative meaning.” This underlines Masi’s position as a fully-fledged member of

the worldwide “Great Wine Capitals” movement. The company will represent the Verona region in the final of the international wine tourism competition “Best of Wine Tourism”, to be held in Chile at the beginning of 2018. Eight other wine capitals will take part: Adelaide-South Australia, Bilbao-Rioja, Bordeaux, Mainz-Rheinhessen,

Porto, San Francisco-Napa Valley, Valparaiso-Casablanca Valley and Mendoza, where Masi has its Tupungato estate. Masi Wine Experience is the hospitality and culture project that sees Masi open the doors of its various properties: in Valpolicella visits can be made to the historic Masi headquarters and guests are welcomed at the noble Possessioni Serego Alighieri, where they can also enjoy exclusive accommodation; at Tenuta Canova in Lazise del Garda local cuisine and food and wine matching can be experienced; in Zürich there’s the elegant Masi Wine Bar and Restaurant; and at Masi Tupungato in the Mendoza region of Argentina guests are welcomed to a company that farms in a totally eco-sustainable fashion in a real oasis of biodiversity. This initiative is part of Masi’s development strategy, designed to communicate the values of the company and its region. The same aim has recently led the company to complete the jigsaw with another piece of the project: the Masi Wine Discovery Museum, an authentic “museum of wine experiences” set up as part of Tenuta Canova on Lake Garda
