November 24, 2019 —The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe
The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, "He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God." Even the soldiers jeered at
him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, "If you are King of the Jews, save yourself." - Lk 23:35-37

Message from Fr. LeRoy….
Recently I ran across a cute “Explanation of God” written by
a child, which I thought you might enjoy! He writes: “One of God’s main
jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so
there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn’t
make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier
to make. That way He doesn’t have to take up his valuable time teaching
them how to talk and walk. He can just leave that up to mothers and
fathers.
God’s second most important job is listening to prayers. An
awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things ,
pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn’t have time to listen to the
radio or TV because of this. Because He hears everything, there must be
a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it
off. God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which
keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn’t go wasting His time by going
over your Mom or Dad’s head asking for something they said you couldn’t
have.
Atheists are people who don’t believe in God. I don’t think
there are any in Chula Vista. At least they aren’t any who come to our
church.
Jesus is God’s Son. He used to do all the hard work like
walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people
who didn’t want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him
preaching to them so they crucified Him. But He was good and kind, like
his Father, and He told His Father that they didn’t know what they were
doing and to forgive them and God said, ‘OK.’
His Dad (God) appreciated everything He had done and all his
hard work on earth so He told Him He didn’t have to go out on the road
anymore. He could stay in Heaven. So He did. And now He helps his
Dad out by listening to our prayers and seeing things which are important
for God to take care of and which one He can take care of Himself
without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more
important. You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you
because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.
You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes
God happy, and if there is anybody you want to make happy, it’s
God. Don’t skip church or do something you think is will be more fun like
going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides, the sun doesn’t come
out on the beach until noon anyway. If you don’t believe in God, besides
being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go
everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can.
It’s good to know He’s around you when you’re scared, in the
dark or when you can’t swim and you get thrown into real deep water by
big kids. But…you shouldn’t just always think of what God can do for
you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He
pleases. And….that’s why I believe in God.” (written by 8 year old,
Danny Dutton of Chula Vista, CA for this third grade assignment to
explain God.)
As we come to the end of our Church’s Liturgical Year and
celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, I hope this perspective of a
child’s faith and these simple words will inspire your own summary of this
great God we have in our rich Tradition of our Christian Catholic Faith.
God bless!
Fr. LeRoy
"YOU KNOW YA WANNA! The auditions for the
2020 ART & SOUL Dinner Theater production of
"Sister Act" will be held on Sunday, November 24 ,
and Monday, November 25 beginning at 6:30. Auditions will take place
in the church at St. Peter's. Please enter door 7. Even if you don’t
want a main part, be a part of the chorus of SISTERS!" It is so much
fun, and so worth it!"
Bulletin deadlines: With the upcoming
Thanksgiving holiday, the deadline for submitting
articles will be changing. For the bulletin that will
be published the weekend of December 7th and
8th, all articles will be due by 9:00 A.M.
Wednesday November 27th. Deadlines will also
change around the Christmas holiday. Please continue to watch the
bulletin for those upcoming deadlines.
Due to the bulletin publishers deadline, Parish Sacrificial Giving
Summary was not available. We will update this in the next
bulletin.
SATURDAY MEAL: Team 5 will prepare, serve and share the noon
meal on Saturday, November 30 at St. Paul’s. All are welcome. For more
information or to volunteer call Shannon Shaughnessy at 253-7182.
There will be an additional collection this
weekend. Inside your bulletin there is an envelope asking for a
donation for the Archdiocese for the Military Services. The AMS
receives no federal funding and has no parishes for a weekly
collection. They must rely on private donations to fund an annual
operating budget of over $8.2 million.
The Archdiocese provides a full range of pastoral ministries to those
serving in the United States Armed Services, enrolled in U.S. Military
Academies, undergoing treatment at any of the 153 Department of
Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, working in civilian jobs for the federal
government beyond U.S. borders, and for families of these populations.
The fund was established in 1985 by Pope John Paul II.
Please prayerfully consider if and what you can donate to this worthy
cause and look for your envelope next weekend.

December is our Food Shelf Month...
Doug Boser of St. Peter's parish will again lead the recruitment for
volunteers at Catholic Charities food shelf during the month of
December. Parishioners from St. Peter's, St. Paul's, St. Michael and St.
Joseph are invited - this is a good opportunity to meet members of our
ACC (Area Catholic Community). Volunteers are needed every Monday,
Wednesday (except Dec. 25), and Friday, with three shifts on Mon. and
Wed., and one on Friday. Shifts are from 3-4 hours, and four to six
volunteers are needed for each shift. Volunteers must be 16 years or
older, or be accompanied by an adult family members.
Volunteers at the Welcome Center will contact those of you who have
volunteered for this ministry in the past. Please sign up for a shift or two to
assist people in our community who need some basic necessities.
Note: The Christmas break is an ideal time for parents to introduce their
children to the ministry of "feeding the hungry" by volunteering at the food
shelf. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.
If you have not been involved in the past, and want to volunteer this
year, PLEASE CALL Doug at 309-1343 or Rose Blesener at 251-3901.
Church of the Week, Nov. 11 to Nov. 25
Due to the early deadline for this week's bulletin, we can report on only our
first two nights of hospitality for persons experiencing homelessness. On
Monday, 11/11, we had 16 guests; on Tuesday, 11/12, we had 20
guests. We expect the numbers will continue to rise as the temperatures
drop.
Please continue to keep our volunteers (200 plus!) and our guests in
your prayers while our parishes offer hospitality to persons experiencing
homelessness in our community. The generosity of our twinned
parishioners is amazing....providing food and drink, preparing the gym and
orienting guests, sacrificing a night at home in exchange for a night in the
hallway at St. Peter's, driving a bus or van to transport our guests morning
and evening...the list goes on. To all those who have volunteered time or
donated treasure and to those who are praying for our volunteers and
guests - thank you for your generosity.
Saturday Meal Program
Meals for the homeless, and those in need, are served at St. Paul's on the
1st and 5th Saturdays of the month. Volunteers are needed to serve,
cleanup, or to bring fruit or bread from home. This is a commitment of only
3 to 4 Saturdays a year! If you feel able to serve in this ministry please
contact Mary O'Hara @ 320-333-0279
Warm Their Soles!
St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Parishes are having our 5th
Annual Sock Drive in the month of November. Last
year we were able to distribute over 1400 pairs of socks
in the community and it was greatly appreciated by all!
Clean, dry socks is something we all take for granted. Help us with
our mission to simply collect NEW socks for men, women and
children. We will be distributing them to the Dream Center, Catholic
Charities and Place of Hope.
Look for baskets at both of our parishes in the month of November to
drop off your brand new sock donations!

We are in need of volunteers to help with Home Delivered
Meals. If you can spare some time to drive or deliver

be December 2nd-6th. Thank you.

Family Members in the Armed Forces—All Powerful God, you always
show mercy toward those who love you and are never far from those who see
you. Be with our men and women as they serve our nation in war. Shelter
them with your protection by day, give them the light of your grace by night
and bring them home in safety. We ask this in Your Holy Name. Amen. If
you have a family member in the armed service, your parish family would like
to know. Please call the Parish Offices for St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s at 251-

Thanksgiving
Thankful living can be a new way to approach life. Helen Keller
wrote “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” In spite of being
blind, she learned to make lemonade out of lemons! No matter the
adversity or disability one faces attitude makes all the difference. Each
day gives us opportunities to learn and grow. There is nothing so bad
that no good comes from it!
Every day give thanks for at least five gifts in your life. Simple things
like being able to see the sunshine, dress yourself, friends that care
about you, a warm house on a cold rainy night, a phone call from a long-
lost friend, and enough to eat when you are hungry. An attitude of
gratitude can make every day Thanksgiving Day!
As we approach the longer dark nights of winter, we can change our
perspective and have a positive effect on the world around us. About the
only thing we have control over is our attitude. Go ahead and see what
an attitude of gratitude does for you! God has blessed us with many gifts.
For which gift am I most thankful today?
Our thanks to everyone who offers their talents to make our parish
communities such a great place to belong.
Blood Pressures will be taken after 10:30 Mass at St. Peter’s November
24
th
.
If you are not feeling well, please do not receive from the cup or be a
minister at mass. Out of respect for others, do not make contact if
they indicate they do not wish to shake hands.
Remember, with slippery conditions, slips and trips mean broken
hips and other bones or head injuries!
November is Diabetes Awareness Month. There are many resources
available to help make managing your diabetes less difficult.

Prayer Corner
Pastoral Care Ministry
Due to the limited amount of room in the bulletin (especially when 1
bulletin will serve all 4 parishes) we find it necessary to keep
names in the PRAYER CORNER for a 2-week period. After that
time, we will be happy to reinstate names as requested.
Perfect Christmas Gift. Many people have really appreciated
receiving the new DVD and book on Heaven, and finding out what
heaven is really like. You are invited to give sets as Christmas gifts to
family and friends. What could be more appropriate? They are
available for FREE on the bookshelves at our church entrances. Look
