DHS has services to help individuals and families get on a path to self sufficiency. You may qualify for help in paying for food, living expenses, child care, medical coverage and more. You may also be able to get help finding a job.
Please talk with a DHS staff member to find out which services you may be able to get. DHS staff members can work with you to create a personalized plan to be safe, healthy and financially independent.

Employment Related Day Care
• Help paying for child care while you work
• Can be used to pay for most types of child care
• Help finding quality child care through the local Child Care Resource and Referral Service
Family Support and Connections
• Help with the challenges of being a parent
• Someone who will listen without judgment
• Ways to connect with community resources
Medical coverage
• Medical coverage for adults and children
State Family Pre-SSI/SSDI Program
• Help applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits
• Monthly cash to help pay for living expenses during the application process
• Medical coverage
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Formerly Food Stamps
• Put healthy food on your table
• Increase your food budget
Temporary Assistance for Domestic Violence Survivors (TA-DVS)
• Temporary financial help
• Can be used for pregnant women or families fleeing domestic violence or at risk of returning to an abusive situation
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

• Services to help you get a job
