Here's a new strumming technique for you to learn: Play all the notes inside the parentheses much softer than the others, and also be sure to strum ONLY the bottom two strings. And -- did you realize that all the songs you've learned so far have only used two chords (D and A)? It's time to introduce you to the G chord -- look in measure 6. You now know all three primary chords and you'll be using them a lot!
