ACCESSIBILITY FOR OKU IN

PUBLIC AMENITIES

RM400 + SST 6%

The increasing number of people with disabilities (OKU) in Malaysia has resulted in more demands for the provision of access and facilities inside and outside of a public building. When the word ‘public’ is used, it deems that all citizens, including the OKU are entitled to use any available public facilities. However, due to the conditions the OKU are already in, they have less opportunities to involve in activities. Such restrictions/limitations have led to discomforts, stress and feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

In Malaysia, the provision of barrier-free environment and infrastructures for the OKU are still lacking and need continuous enhancement by relevant governing bodies. As such, appropriate considerations and actions shall be taken to ensure accessibility of public infrastructures for the OKU conform to the legislation, statutory and guidelines made by the Uniform Building (Amendment) by-Laws (UBBL) 1991 and relevant Malaysian Standards.

This seminar aims to raise awareness and spread knowledge on the importance of accessibility of OKU in public amenities.
