1- Programme Aims
The program aims at providing the students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow
them to:
• Understand the basic human body structures and functions and the mechanisms by
which different diseases alter them.
• Utilize different information sources to upgrade their scientific knowledge with the
ability of self learning , critical appraisal and evaluation
• Become able to diagnose and manage common health problems including provision of
primary preventive measures, and to detect & refer less common diseases to appropriate
health care facilities.

• Deal with the patients’ health problems in the context of the individual patients, their
families and the society as a whole following the code of ethics & respecting the
commendable community traditions.
• Share in conducting scientific researches that are directed towards improving community
health status based on the principles of the scientific method and systematic research methodology.

skeleton in models & cadavers
c2 Examine under the microscope the main sections of human tissues & organs and
describe its basic features.
c3 Perform basic hematological and biochemical laboratory tests related to common
health problems

c4 Identify the main pathological changes of common diseases on gross specimens and
sections under the microscope
c5 Interpret the actions of major drug groups on tissues & organs of experimental
animals
c6 Diagnose the common pathogenic microorganisms on culture media & under the
microscope
c7 -Diagnose the main parasites prevailing in the community through their gross and
microscopic appearance.
c8 -Obtain an accurate, patient-centered medical history that covers all aspects of the
patient’s problems.
c9 -Perform a full physical examination; including general & organ system specific,
which is culturally-sensitive & relevant to the patient’s problem.
c10 -Assess the overall mental & psychological state of the patient.
c11 -Record the information obtained from history, physical examination &
psychological assessment in the structured format (patient's sheet).
c12 -Order base line investigations that help to diagnose common health problems the
graduate is likely to face in practice.
c13 -Relate the results of investigations with the clinical findings to diagnose the
patient’s illness.
c14 -Construct the plan of treatment for common acute health problems.
c15 -Treat common acute health problems using proper drugs in proper doses according
to the age & sex of the patient.
c16 -Initiate the management of common chronic health problems & follow their
treatment after specialist advice.
c17 -Diagnose & provide initial management of common emergency & life threatening
conditions.
c18 -Assess & Stabilize patients with conditions requiring critical care & refer to
appropriate health facilities.
c19 -Detect clinical manifestations suggestive of less common health problems, and refer
to appropriate health facility.
c20 -Participate in epidemiologic surveillance according to the NHS rules.
c21 -Provide disease prevention measures on individual & community basis
including vaccination, health education & environmental sanitation.

Basic procedural skills:
The students will be able to do the following on models in skill lab:
c22 -Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples on models of adults & children.
c23 -Insert a venous cannula in peripheral vein.
c24 -Give IM & subcutaneous injections.
c25 -Suture superficial simple wounds.
c26 -Clean & dress wounds.
c27 -Support an injured patient in accidents and help to transfer him/her safely.
c28 -Resuscitate utilizing basic life support measures.
c29 -Insert a urinary catheter in male or female model.
c30 -Administer oxygen therapy using basic methods (mask, cannula, & prongs).
c31 -Use a nebuliser to administer bronchodilator drugs.
c32 -Insert a nasogastric tube in adults & children.
c33 -Assist the mother in normal delivery.
c34 –Give vaccines according to the national compulsory vaccination schedule.
The students will be able to do the following on patients:
c35 -Follow strictly the infection-control measures during patient’s examination,
procedures & laboratory work.
c36 -Perform & interpret 12-leads ECG.
c37 -Perform simple bed side/ office tests including urine dipstick test, urine Iodine test,
and hemoglucocheck.
c38 Observe procedures of basic respiratory function tests.
c39 Interpret the results of respiratory functions obtained from patients with common
respiratory problems.

d- General & transferable Skills:
These are the skills and abilities which the graduates can apply to a wide range of activities in
their lives including employment. They can be developed throughout learning in any specific
subject and can be transferred from one context to another (another subject area, community
role or an employment related task). These skills thus include; general communication skills,
information management, team work, leadership and management, analysis critical evaluation
and auditing.

4. Curriculum Structure and Contents
4.a- Programme duration: Six academic / Calendar Years 4.b- Programme structure:
The program is designed as integrated system based curriculum which is divided into 2
phase : Phase 1 : Preclerkship phase : consists of 6 semesters each 15 weeks
Phase 2 Clerkship Phase : consists of 6 semesters ( from 6th to 12th ) each 20 weeks.

10- Elective courses:
Presented in the clerkship period and selectively chosen by the students based on
their personal interests. It is offered by different clinical and academic departments and
advocate deep understanding of medical and non- medical educational knowledge. These
electives can contribute to both the professional and personal development of medical
students in specific areas of interest outside of the standard curriculum. Some courses
concentrate on clinical skills, general and transferable skills as well as the improvement of
students’ research skills
