Kanazawa&BuffaloBecomeSisterCities1962TheJapaneseGardenwasproposedfor6acresonthewesternendofDelawarePark,onthebanksofMirrorLakebehindtheHistoryMuseum.ThiswasthesiteofthePan-AmericanExpositionin1901.TheGardeniscompletedin1974.
Re-DesigningTheGardenIn1994TheJapaneseGardenwasredesignedbyMasterGardenersfromJapan.Afullgardenrestorationwascompletedin2010todealwitherosioncontrolbyinstallingbamboopostsonthehillsidesandislands.Athousandnewplantingswereintroduced.
TheFriendsofTheJapaneseGardenTheFriendsoftheJapaneseGardenwasorganizedtosupportthisunusualgardenbyorganizingworkdays,raisingfundsformaintenanceandimprovements,andarrangingforgardenerexchangesbetweenKanazawaandBuffalo.In2012TheJapaneseGardenbecameanHonoraryInternationalPeaceGarden.
TheBuffaloCherryBlossomFestival–AnAnnualCelebration(est.2014)ActivitiesattheJapaneseGardenofBuffalo,includingaTeaCeremony,aSakuraCocktailParty,FilmScreenings,Tours,Music,picnicsandmore.AllcelebratingSpringandthisbeautifulBuffaloTreasure.
