It gives me great pleasure to introduce Chas Clarkson and to share with you some of the amazing Christmas and illumination projects that our team has had the privilege of working on.

We are very proud to celebrate our 127th year of business in 2020 and through courage, resilience and adaptability, we have been able to survive through world wars, a Great Depression and numerous recessions. Although 2020 is turning out like nothing any of us expected, one thing is for certain – the community is going to need a Christmas full of joy and happiness, like never before. Christmas 2020 will be a time of reaffirmation of what is most important in all of our lives – the love of family and friends and the connection with our community.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture and installation of Christmas decorations and illumination for the City of Melbourne.

OverviewThe City of Melbourne required new, large assets to use in key locations within the City of Melbourne municipality. Working closely with the City of Melbourne Team, Chas Clarkson developed 2 impactful decorations that met the brief. Federation Square was the location for the elegant 4m LED ‘Otaki’ Bauble Arches. Installation of these pieces presented logistical challenges regarding the positioning of the decorations on the steps and around other decorations being set up at the same time. Chas Clarkson was able to Project Manage and work closely with both the City of Melbourne and the Federation Square Operations Team to achieve a magical photo opportunity. The decoration positioned on Southbank included a large, shiny fabricated bow atop an open four-sided Present Box. The underside of the bow contained a large selfie mirror reflecting the image of visitors, along with the branded Christmas Festival backdrop. To give this decoration a more festive feature, the ceiling was lined with an assortment of Christmas balls in multiple colours. Chas Clarkson was able to deliver two exceptional decoration concepts that allowed people of all ages to immerse themselves in the City of Melbourne’s Christmas Festival.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture & installation of Christmas decorations for Brisbane City Marketing in Queensland, Australia

Overview

The brief from Brisbane City Council was to “capture the essence of fun” and engage visitors of all ages at Christmas time; whether they are local, interstate or international. The new Christmas decorations also needed to tie in with Brisbane City Council’s existing Christmas campaign.

There were several challenges and restrictions with the location of the decorations on Queen Street Mall such as limited infrastructure, exclusion zones and weather (all decorations were located externally). Understanding these challenges, the Chas Clarkson Team created and produced a vibrant decoration program that was easy to install, durable for external use and required no additional infrastructure.

Chas Clarkson’s creative vision and strategy for Brisbane City Council transformed Queen Street Mall into an experiential townscape of colour, patterns, music, immersion and activity. The bold and vivid Christmas decoration program unified, anchored and amplified all of Brisbane City Council’s Christmas marketing initiatives and activities.

It also drove considerable social engagement locally, nationally and internationally.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture & installation of two Christmas Trees for the City of Perth.

Overview

Chas Clarkson responded to a brief from the City of Perth for a new Christmas decoration program for the years 2015-2017. Chas Clarkson was successful in producing a 12m giant Christmas tree in Forest Place that included an LED messaging ribbon spiralling up the tree. This interactive ribbon created endless graphic images and pre-programmed messages that delighted and amazed Perth locals and visitors.

The decoration trim on the tree was seamlessly changed over for a new design at each year’s installation. Included in the brief was a new Christmas tree at Council House and Chas Clarkson also completed the install and dismantle of the trees, as well as storage of the decorations off-site.

The result was a beautiful Christmas experience for the City of Perth’s Christmas launch event and seasonal celebrations.

RoleDesign & manufacture of Christmas decorations for the City of Ballarat across multiple projects.

Overview

In 2013, Chas Clarkson produced vibrant new Christmas starsfor the City of Ballarat. Achieving great impact both during the day and night, these pieces were incorporated into the partnership that the City of Ballarat had with the greenkeepers of the city.

Chas Clarkson worked with a local manufacturer to create the metal basestructure and a design company to print and apply the message. 7 years on and with some maintenance performed in 2018, these durable and flexible free-standing pieces are still going strong.

In 2019, Chas Clarkson was engaged to create a beautiful 3 metre walk-through bauble that would provide a new level of interaction, aswell as a backdrop for photo opportunities. Fully illuminated with twinkling LED lights and embellishments, this stunning piece brought a new level of joy to the City of Ballarat’s “Christmas in the City” campaign.

RoleTo work with Karratha Council to create a community Christmas trail through the town centre.

Overview

Karratha reached out to the Chas Clarkson team in 2015 & we have been working together ever since to bring Joy and the Christmas spirit to this town that helps supply many of Australia’s raw material for export all over the world.

The Events team at Karratha had a vision to create a Christmas trail through the main street of the town, but were up against a few major obstacles. Firstly, their location was not lending itself to affordable freight options, and secondly, the harsh, hot environment that is renowned in this part of Australia. In conclusion, the Chas team worked with our factories in Greece to help supply all the decorations the Karratha team needed to bring Christmas to town in one 20ft container. This in turn avoided a lot of excess freight charges that could then be utilised on purchasing even more decorations to light up the town.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture and installation of Christmas decorations & illumination for the Hornsby Shire Council.

Overview

Chas Clarkson has been working closely with Hornsby ShireCouncil since 2015. In 2019, the Council required a new concept that would help bring the community together; a concept that would complement the completed upgrade in the nearby Westfield Shopping Centre and railway station precinct.

Chas Clarkson worked with the Hornsby Council Events team to design a package that exceeded all expectations. We installed a joyful photo opportunity under a gorgeous historical live tree outside the Mayor's office. We also illuminated the mall with red and gold spheres that twinkled as commuters stepped off the trains, allowing them to leave their work day behind and to feel the joy of returning home at Christmas time.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture and installation of Christmas decorations & illumination for the Campbelltown City Council.

Overview

The Campbelltown Council required new elements for their stunning - but large - park in the centre of town. The decorations needed to have great day time presence, but also act like a Christmas beacon in the evening for those that were travelling past on the main road running adjacent to the park.

Security always needs to be considered in an external space, so large painted concrete blocks were used in the garden bed to mount the decorations and keep them securely in place.

Starting early in the year was key to the success of this installation as the Council and the Chas team could work together to create a seamless installation for this wonderful community project.

RoleConcept development, design, manufacture and installation of bespoke Christmas trees at Rundle Mall for Rundle Mall Management Authority (RMMA)

Overview

After an unsuccessful tender process RMMA approached Chas Clarkson as they were looking for an Operational Events Agency to manage the installation, logistics, maintenance and removal of Rundle Mall Precincts Christmas 2019 decorations. RMMA was seeking a collaborative working arrangement with a supplier that had the ability and capacity to integrate with the RMMA team to deliver one of RMMA’s high profile key events. Building on 2018, Chas Clarkson were able to evolve the Christmas decorations across the 9 Zones that span the length of the Mall for 2019. Chas Clarkson was able to achieve key deliverables in the RMMA Strategic Plan, showcasing it as a precinct that is unique and special while meeting all timelines & budgets. The Christmas decorations were designed to encourage engagement, giving compelling reasons for people to visit Rundle Mall, resulting in multiple visits and longer stays. Throughout 2019 Chas Clarkson were able to provide value added solutions to RMMA with the initial Project Operation Install & Dismantle & In-Season Maintenance budget of $235,700 increasing to a multi-year contract to the value of $1.5m.
